Wondered if anybody has used the/an aerosol type fuel injector cleaner on their 3.8L Windstar. I saw a program on TV where they did this. It was a large can that attached to the Shrader valve on the injector rail. So......Have you and what do you think.
Working on an intermittant start problem: Typically when vehicle is warm and has sat for 30 min. or so. It will start, but run very roughly, with CEL flashing indicating misfire. Usually, shutting it off, and waiting a minute or two will allow a normal start and no further problems. I am also changing out the OEM spark plug leads.
Thanks

I have not seen this product.....what is the brand name?
I have been running Redline Complete Fuel System Cleaner.....in the recommended "maintenance" dose. I add the small amount to almost every tank.
This weekend I started using Fuel Power, called "FP60". I have been reading about people liking it.....so I am giving it a try. It is very similar to the Redline product. You have to buy it online.
Both of these products have a "oil" that lubricates and protects the fuel system.
They used to have the year of our vehicle in our profiles....but it does not seem to be there anymore.
So, for the older windstars......mine is a '96. This TSB is in reference to the windstars with the CCRM (Constant Control Relay Module) which contains the relays for the Fuel Pump, Fan High and low speed, and the AC compressor.
If you have one of these (fuel pump relay is NOT in the distribution box with fuses and relays in the engine compartment).... The TSB is for a NON-start condition after a "Heat Soak" and shut down for about 15 minutes or so in below freezing weather. Cause of the problem was moisture in the fuel pump relay. Solution was to replace the CCRM with an "improved" type...with relays that have improved sealing. This problem (fuel pump opertation issue) will NOT light the CEL as the fuel pump is not monitored during the start function.
What this problem might look like before it would be as bad as to not start the car?
The CCRM is located in between the battery and the radiator.
Another cause would involve a loss of coolant. If the gasket for the lower intake manifold is leaking.....it could be letting coolant into one or more cylinders.....
Again....you would see a drop in the coolant level in the overflow bottle or radiator. If not, then it is not your problem.
If you have a '99 or newer windstar, and have not had the TSB for the upper intake manifold (bolt seals and gaskets) done.....it could be a vaccum leak. With a hot engine, different materials cooling and contractling at different rates....could case a vaccum leak at a given stage of the cool down process.
One thing that you could do, is to have the codes read....and see if it is a particular cylinder that is giving you the misfire. P0301-P0306 are for cylinders 1-6. If it is always just one cylinder, then a spark plug, wire, injector would be good suspects.

Thanks Guys
Wiswind I have a '96. This "rough start" problem has happened occasionally in the past and has ususally been a cylinder 1 misfire. It has been a bit more persistent recently, but has happened while I am out of town so I can't read the code for my Wife. It clears after a couple of drive cycles. I am overdue on the plug leads. I have avoided it just because of the hassle. I did do the plugs about a year ago. Should have done it then :).
Thanks again gentlemen.

Hi
regarding the cleaner: I saw it on Motorweek or a similar program. It attaches at the shrader valve with a hose and was something similar to :
