How to fix headlights on my '95 Windstar?

I was on my way back from the store last night and as I was accelerating over a bridge the headlights suddenly went very bright and then went out completely. The parking lights still work. I have noticed that the lights have never been all that bright since I bought the vehicle a year ago.

I have a feeling this is more than just a fuse, but I am going to have a look when I get off work this afternoon. If anyone has any ideas I would sure appreciate it!

Thanks very much for this forum.

Well AuntieJan, first off welcome to Auto Forums.!

I too have a 95 but have, as of yet, experienced this problem.

Do your dash lights come on? Do you have auto lamps? (do your lights come on when it gets dark automatically?)

I would think that you may have a ground problem. Being that the lights have been dim, and then going bright and then going out. Both lights may share the same ground location.

I know that it's not the maxi fuse (K) under the hood on your right because you wouldn't have any parking lights.

There are other fuese under the dash (IP fuses).
Fuse 38 is for LH/RH high beams, 10 RH low beam, 4 LH lowbeam, 23 is flash to pass (check if the lights come on when you pull back on the turn signal lever)

I wouldn't think that all of the above fues would blow at once.

You could get a test light and check for power at each of the above fuese.

Hopfully someone else can help out here.

Regards

Dan

Upon further review... it turns out that the high beam lamps are out but the low beams still work. Someone else told me to check the multifunction switch, that it might have caused a short. Maybe I'd better check that fuse #38 for power too, it can't hurt.

Thanks for responding!

No problem. Post back if you have more questions and when you find the trouble.
