Hi. My friend drives a 1999 Monto Carlo Z34 (tan) . I drive a 2001 Pontiac Grand AM GT1 Coupe(w/ ram air, black).
he has 61k miles, i have 63k.
he has plain jane alloy rims.
i have the stock chrome pontiac 16s.
i have a monsoon sound system.
he has a acdelco stock chevy system.
i have a leather interior, he doesnt.
i have ETS, he doesnt.
we were just wondering who you think has a better car in all of these areas.
0-60 power
passing power
exterior looks
interior looks
reliability
and overall, which car you would rather drive.
thanks

Im assuming the are both auto becasue I dont think they made either with a manual tranny, correct me if I'm wrong.
The power is probably about equal in both, the Monte Carlo may have a quicker 0-60 but the Grand Am might be better for passing.
Exterior looks goes to the Grand am just because I never saw a Monte Carlo that I thought was nice looking. However, the alloys are nicer then the plastic.
Interior looks probably goes to the Grand Am just becasue of the leather. The Monte Carlo is probably a little bigger but Chevys interiors are very cheap(well in fact, most GM interiors are but especially Chevy). And I think leather looks like a million bucks.
Reliablitly is a push.
Id rather drive the Grand Am, but thats becasue I hate Monte Carlos to begin with.

just so you know, his car is just a rebadged grand prix and your car is the model just below the grand prix.
his car makes more hp, tq, and has a bigger motor, but it's also a bit heavier, so speed is a toss up, it's probably almost dead even.
interior quality and reliability are probably the same since both cars are GM's.
your car has more amenities and has a newer look to it, the old monte's look just like the lumina.
so if it came down to it i'd probably go with your grand am over his monte, but it's really a toss up, the cars are very similar. however his car has more potential to be fast seeing as how it uses the chevy 3800 engine, which is the same as the GTP and similar to that in the buick Grand nationals, just without the turbo. there are plenty of mods available for his car, i think yours falls short in that category.

0-60 power - Monte Carlo, but it's close.
passing power - Monte Carlo, again close
exterior looks - Monte Carlo
interior looks - Grand Am
reliability - Monte Carlo, the 3800 is excellent in terms of reliability.
and overall, which car you would rather drive. - Monte Carlo for me, the 3800 under the hood seals that deal.

Pontiac Grand Am GT all the way for me.
looks - Grand Am, great sporty economy car
acceleration - i would put my money on the grand am, they are known to be underrated from the factory and i have seen them pull high 14 seconds fron the factory.
interior - grand am, leather and newly restyled compared to the much older looking and styled Monte Carlo
reliability - same

0-60- It depends on the car and the driver, each car is different, but it could easily go either way
Passing power-I'd have to go with the monte, but the power is hardly noticable
exterior-easily grand am the montes are hideous
interior-again grand am
reliability-same
Overall I'd rather drive the grand am (which is funny because I do drive a grand am), btw the passing power could be changed with a few simple mods same with 0-60.
