Read this before posting:

Well its December and 2005 it’s coming to an end. Therefore it’s our duty to choose the car which defined the last 12 months of our lives.

This is the nominations thread. You will choose 3 cars and rate them:

1st place will receive 3 points
2nd place will receive 2 points
3rd place will receive 1 point

After about two weeks this thread will be closed and the moderating team will tally up the points. The top 10 rated cars will go on a poll where they will stay till the end of the year. On the first of January one car will have the honor of being acclaimed as Car Comparison's Car Of The Year.

Only cars available on the market during 2005 may apply. (cars marketed by manufacturers as "2006 models" are also eligible)

Feel free to discuss and debate your choices, in a civilized manner of course. But do make sure to post your nominations clearly (use of bolds is suggested) otherwise there is a chance we might miss them during the final tally. Also please type in the full name and model of the car nominated.

"Tuner" cars are not eligible unless considered by a national government as a standalone car such as in the case of Ruf (licensed as a car manufacturer by the German government) whose cars stop being officially Porche after he is done with them.

Specify the exact model of the car!!! (eg. Mustang GT; Mustang V6 etc...). If you think of an older model specify otherwise the latest model will be assumed.

Thank You:)

1. Ferrari F430 - 3pts
2. Aston Martin V8 Vantage - 2pts
3. BMW M5 - 1pts

I chose as #1 the ferrari since its a tecnological masterpice while offering all of the red ferrari passion we came to expect, what it lost in elegance to the 360 it more than made up in performance.

The baby aston comes at #2 since its an "afordable" model almost as good looking as the DB9 and it comes with a manual!!!

The teutonic computer on wheels comes at #3 since it offers us 500 hp worth of supercar performance in a sensible sedan (dads of the world rejoice - well at least the rich dads;))

1. BMW M5 (E60) - 3pts
2. Pagani Zonda F - 2pts
3. Ferrari F430 - 1 pt

The new M5 is the daddy of all supersaloons. 500bhp, 200mph. Nuff said.
The Zonda F improves on the already stunning C12S and is a staggering achievement for such a new car manufacturer.
Finally, while im not a huge fan of its looks, the F430 is simply an animal and deserves a place in the top 3.

1) BMW M5 3pts
2) Audi RS4 2pts
3) Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 1pt

chose S4 over the M3 cuz the redesigned smaller 4.2L V8 delivers 414bhp, and 06 Mitsu Evo over the 06 STi (close call with this rivalry, but i'm siding with Evo this time). Sorry, i don't have enough know-all on cars in class with Pagani, Ferrari, and Lambo's to chose one there.

1. Chevrolet Corvette Z06
2. BMW M5
3. Pontiac Solstice

The Corvette Z06 is ultimately the best bang for you buck sports car on the market today. It competes with the supercars as a very un-supercar price....my only question is that does this car actually count as a 2005 COTY?

100hp/L is always very tough to accomplish...but to be able to do it out of 5L with adequate torque and high revs is absolutely astounding

IMO the solstice is an amazing little roadster...The thing absolutely flies when you want it to, but can be civil and calm on your less energetic days...I have driven it, and I am a believer!

OK here are my common guy picks...

Mustang GT - 3PT
Corvette C6- 2PT
Colorado - 1PT

Ferrari's are great but I can't touch them with my buying power... I like what Ford did with the new Mustang as it looks great with a slight retro style to it, the new Corvette just plain smokes anything under $60K, and I know its a truck but the new Chevy Colorado pickup five cylinder is just plain innovative.....

BMW M5 E60 = 3 points

Simply because its the best compromise between sport and comfort.

Buggati Veyron = 2 points

Well, do it get more insame than with this machinery. 1001 BHP and over 400 kmp/H. THis car will sure set the benchmark for a long time.

Ferrari 430 = 1 point

The best driving machine today. Everything is made to perfection with this fine piece of engineering. What an engine !!

How can't you just fall in love with the new Bugatti. The things a masterpiece. It never hurts to go 252mph straight from the factory!
I really love the fact that the Mosler has that race car look straight from the factory yet is still street legal. Also, its nice its got the balls to hold its own.
And of course the M5. I've loved this car since I first seen it. It doesn't hurt that its actually got a reasonable price as well!!

I will stick to models sold in the US.

1: FORD GT

"Bang for the Buck?" this will compete with anything twice its price

2: CHEVROLET COBALT SS SUPERCHARGED

I have driven one. filthy quick and and incredible handling. Any more sporty and it will eclipse the Vette

3: CHRYSLER 300C SRT-8

Luxury and 425bhp and 420 torque for the common mans price. Mopar flexes some Hemi Muscle.

SRT-4 and Charger SRT-8 would have made the list, but both have a few too many doors for what they are...

1. Ferrari F430 (3 points)
2. Bmw M5 (2 points)
3. Zonda F (1 point )

Ferrari simple yet stylish , Refine , Performance of a truely Fine tuned car , Great soundtrack ! Class of its own

Bmw M5 Work of art in terms of handling for a saloon , Powerful yet great as a cruiser , has a soundtrack close to a F430. Bad point which made me put it into 2nd place was the amount of electronics setting u have to set b4 u can get it going lol.

Zonda F Mr Pagani's opinion of the best Zonda he built , naming it the F , brutal power from the merc 7.3 lit v 12 engine. A nutter supercar. Downside... The looks hasnt changed much which made me put it in 3 place

1) BMW E60 M5

If you were doubting before, BMW truly has made the Ultimate Driving Machine. $80,000, 500bhp, 7sp SMG, 4 doors, and a BMW Interior. To me, this car is symbolic of BMW's rise to the best selling premium make.

2) Ferrari F430

If I could afford one, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. Best Ferrari yet. They sound absolutely amazing. I'll take one in Ferrari red, with an F1 transmission (sry guys).

3) BMW E90 3-Series

What Dinan put two BMW's on his list? This was actually a tough one. The C6 Z06 is a very good car as well, as is the Porsche Cayman, but my unlimited love for the 3-series pulled through. Its the Automobile Magazine car of the year, and its everything you'd expect from the 3-series. Great handling, great feel, good power. It also beat out the more powerful IS350 and G35 in C&D.

Lamborghini Murcielago Convertible: 3pts

It's everything I love about exotics, all wrapped up in a gorgeous package, minus the roof.

Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe: 2pts

The latest generation of one of the most beastly, uncompromising streetcars ever. (Plus I got to drive the droptop version last spring, so I can really appreciate the kind of power this car has.)

Mazda MX-5: 1pt

Latest generation of the pure, affordable, reliable, convertible sportscar. (This one kinda ties with the Pontiac Solstice, but I use to drive a Miata, so they will forever hold a special place in my heart.)

Ecordeddie, I agree with you about the Chevy Colorado. I drive one now, and I love it. The five-cylinder is so much more than I expected, and the truck is way more refined and ergonomic than I figured it would be.

#1-Bentley Conti GT (Luxo-Rocket to the stars)
#2-BMW M5 (RS/AMG/SRT/V-Series eater!)
#3-Infiniti M45 (Most Improved Of Year)

Not yet available, but worthy of mention, the Cadillac STS-V. Glad that GM decided to hand-build major components; like intercooled 4.4 liter Roots-type supercharged V8s producing 469HP/439TQ. Good job, guys. Now take the 6L80 TAPShift rear-drive 6-speed from the Vette and STS-V and put it in a midsize (like a new Monte) with the 303HP 5.3 liter LS4 V8......and BANG!!!! YOUR SALES COME BACK!!!!!!

Regarding the user who suggested the Cobalt, the WRX or SRT-4 ACR are much more powerful, better overall choices, IMO.

My votes:
1 - Chevrolet Corvette Z06
2 - Mercedes CLS
3 - Mazda RX-8

The Vette is a great value, cannot be beaten by any street legal car (excl. cars like the Radical which i'd hardly consider a real car due to its impracticality) under, like 150K USD.

The CLS has a beautiful design and as Brabus showed, it can have power. They reached like 800 or 900 lbs of torque at 2400 RPMs. And about 750 hp.

I love the design of the RSX, the Rotary is a very intriguing design, the freestyle 4 doors are cool, and its handling and braking are amazing.

Evo easly takes first, the proformance to price ratio says it all
Z06 takes second, great proformance, awsome styling, runs neck and neck with cars that cost four times as much.
WRX STi Takes third, it is not quite on par with the EVO for balls to the wall proformance but very close, i would have put it second but I don't like the bubble look. I prefer the look of the late 90s models.

That was a tough decision, I wanted to put the F430 in there but I absolutely love the Z06 and the Saleen S7's are unbelievable cars. Can't go bitchin about a 500 hp sedan either, the M5's looks match it's performance almost perfect, not to mention you get the choice between 400 or 500 horsepower. The Bugatti is an awesome car but I think it's overkill, to me it's a car that resembles an attention whore. The Nissan/Infinit GT-R isn't a bad car either, I love the front and rear end but I HATE that roof, it needs to look more level or somethin, plus it's a 2007 car.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 - 3 pts.
2006 Chevy Corvette Z06 - 2 pts.
2006 Pontiac Solstice – 1 pt.

The GC SRT8 is just an all around winner. First of all, Its a Jeep. Second of all, it's a 6.1 SRT Hemi V8. Third of all, its American. My reasoning is that it outpaces a Cayenne Turbo from 0-60 and has a top speed of 155. And I'm sure thats limited, which the Cayenne is probably too. Its fast as hell, and its a Jeep. Its got the power that only America could make. It really is the ultimate performance vehicle, on road and off.

The Chevy Corvette Z06 is an obvious contender because for like $60K or $70K, you get Ferrari 430 performance. And again, it's American.

And last but not least, the Pontiac Solstice. It's Miata matching performance with American flair. And the $20K price tag, its a winner in everyones book. And the soon-to-be turbo version just sweetens the deal. And i'm just fanticising here, but a coupe version fitted with a V8 (which can fit in the Solstice now) would be just awesome. And the perfect name would be "Equinox". But Chevy took it for a boring cute ute...

Those are my nominations.

I hate to call you on this, but the M5 will have a 6sp manual in the US in late 2006. The transmission in it right now however is not tiptronic, its a sequential transmission. There is a huge difference between the two.

Nice, its good to see that the M5 will be offered with a manual, sequantials are all fancy and nice and i prefer them over any automatic, however for pure driving enjoyment the clutch/stick combo rules supreme.

1) Chevrolet Corvette Z06 - 3 pts
2) Chevrolet Traillblazer SS - 2 pts
3) Pontiac Grand Prix GXP - 1pt

Love American cars (especially those with a chevy small block v8) - always have and always will!

All three of these cars are relatively affordable in their categories and performance wise are at the top.

I LOVE MOPAR

That's quite noticeable...however...until they get off their asses I'll only be fairly impressed, they know the capabilites of the Viper and until they realize the potential in it and make it faster/more powerful/LIGHTER I'll take the Z06. The Viper was, and still is a HUGE and bold statement car, it represents what all muscle car fanatics love, big cubic inches in a hell of a car, but Chevy has caught up with their Corvette, with that 7.0 litre small block, granted I don't consider it an exotic, and it's not a supercar, although it can beat most of them in performance, it still needs something more to set it apart from the base Corvette, to the plain jane person they won't see the difference when it flys by, yet most of us here could spot the difference 100 yards away. The only thing the Viper has on the Vette now is it's exclusiveness(sp) and rareness. Do those mean the same? It does look world's better than the Corvette I think but c'mon. It's as if the Viper is the fullback and the Vette the running back of America, more nimble, while the fullback has more muscle and that in your face ass-kicking attitude. This probably isn't the forum to say this but I had to get a rant off. I'm a Chevy man for life but I feel let down by Dodge for what the Viper came to be, and now it's this, I know Dodge can do better, it just seems as if they don't care for the Viper anymore. I just wish they could list a 3.55 axle option, I mean 5th gear is designed to top out at 220, and you still have sixth gear to go, c'mon, there's where the Corvette can beat it in acceleration tests.

Do you have something against reading?

You will choose 3 cars and rate them

From now on we will not count nominations from anyone who hasnt followed the (simple!) instructions. We're not asking very much of you guys...

3 cars, clearly identified (make & model).
