Srt-4

are the SRT-4's really worth the price? i have been thinking about getting one. thought long and hard about this, actually. my current car...the only thing left to do to it, is change the wheels, as someone pointed out to me. just had to decide if the price was really worth it. i mean, for the price of an SRT-4, i can get a new 2006 civic si....yeah right. i could see myself riding in one of those....it would be fully loaded though....still, i cannot go that route. no no....but, are they really what they say. do they stand up to the hype? are they worth the price tag?

Yes, yes and yes! It's a great car for the price. Easily modded to reach close to 300HP fairly cheap also. Thats hard to beat. I prefer the first gen neon look better, but I love the engine in the SRT-4...the body style isn't for me.
nimitz23ky
11-29-2005, 06:11 AM
yeah, the body style is kinda.....well, to be nicely put, different. i do like my neon body style far better, but mine is peaked...nothing else to do...as well, i did not want to keep going on the other member's thread. what i said about taking off the compressor. the only reason i did it was for another alternator to be mounted. custom bracket, but it bolted up pretty close to the original component. that is why i said to take it off......and as well, it does keep it from kicking on...if it kicks on while being off the car, you have got some prety serious things going on....

the srt isnt for everyone. if you want a car to cruse softly down the road, then get the civic. but if you want a great performance car for very little cash, then the srt is the only way to go. its fast, loud, rough around the edges, and can be sketchy to drive in the rain, but a hoot to drive.

i've built my car for show. almost 60k into it. i like cars to feel like an old wagon, stiff suspension, and i hate to just cruise down the highway. i love the high performance feel. i used to be into the Z28, SVT, SS, & WS6 fields...loved them for what they were. nothing yo did to them would make them ride like a lac...just wasn't going to happen. finally, something hit me, and i thought, why not start small, and build it. there is only so much you can do to a blown WS6. it will only do so much before one of two things. it gets wrapped around a tree, or it blows the engine. i hate cars that are made for cruising down the road. i like something that is going to go when i hit the pedal. that is why it is called a go pedal....and the civic comment....that was just surreal....i would never buy a civic if it was the only car left. i would rather walk, or ride a bicycle, then ride in a civic....much less drive one....

i would never buy a civic if it was the only car left. i would rather walk, or ride a bicycle, then ride in a civic....much less drive one....I'd take a 99 or 00 civic SI. They are nice looking and for what's it worth, the civic has more engine swap capabilities than our neon. I'm not a huge fan of the civic, but I wouldn't mind owing a blue 00 SI, or a 99 eclipse for that matter
nimitz23ky

true on the engine swap...but, if i was going for a foreign car, i would have to raise a bit more money and just start out bigger...screw the civic. just something about them. i do not like them for thier looks, but then again, that falls back to the SRT-4...a dodge charger SRT-8...yessss.....full bliss....but i had a civic once. it was a good car. it did go well. i blew the hell out of it. it was partially my fault, then again, it was the car itself. things went wrong, made me mad, ad the car paid dearly for it. i as well, forgot if i am in the car, i am going to pay a bit more then it does...but, i do like my neon. it is a good car. i was basically just wondering if the SRT-4 was really worth the price...besides, the new civic si only has 190hp...c'mon.....really do i want that....i do think i am going to get the SRT-4. i test drove several of them today, and did find them a bit peppier then i had thought they would be...hell, for the price i should be able to go out and keep up with a SS or WS6....yeah right.....

nice, bright red SRT-4. bought it today. i did have some fun with it taking it home. taking it to where it will sit until tomorrow....i wanted to drive the hell out of it tonight, but snow has faltered my plans on that...it is a nice car. i had to pull it into the garage, boot out the old neon...poor thing. it will probably blow something tomorrow, for that one....but, it's an SRT-4....! everybody's right on them though. good car. fun to drive. fast for what it is. topped it out coming home. not the smartest thing to do, but i just had to try....does have a bit of rear-end boggle at top speed...could have been from the storm blowing in, the wet roads....who know....but, it is sitting in my warm garage, where it will have a home for now...until the morning, when i realize this snow didn't do anything....

well, the snow didn't do anything, but the freezing rain was quite delicious....yes indeed. the car runs alright. no, the car runs great. the car is already in the shop, though...having the stage 2 turbo put on...thought at the shop it would get done alot faster. i can pick it up in the morning. got a set of decent looking motegi wheels for it. they are just small 17's. look rather big, but they are alright for winter. will ust drive the talon mainly this winter...and, what did i say. the stupid older neon. i booted it out of the garage, a garage made for three, and what does it do...go to move it, and the top radiator hose popped on me. i have bad luck with cars. should stick to bicycles. i know i should. but, it has a new hose on it. picked my mess up in the garage, and now there is room for both of them...i just know they are going to get into a fight...i think i need to go and take my meds....yeah...but, it is a great car. an excellent choice. and i know i will have some fun from it....just need to redo the entire engine, to be able to run massive amounts of boost on this one as well. that has to wait until spring,though....but, thanx for the advice and help on deciding. although it was just a little, you guys helped guide me along the road of yet another neon....

i just decided to take it to a shop. i am tired, i had to work all weekend, and i just didn't want to deal with it. at least at dodge they will do it without totally voiding the warranty. it was done on their lot, in their garage...so, for the time being, anything done to it is going to be done at the shop...will have all pics, neon, talon, and SRT-4 uploaded in january....have to take the neon back down to ga for a photo shoot at the shop that helped mewith most of the items on it....so, will have photos then. sorry about the delay. these are gonna be good. wish i had started taking pix of the neon before i started working on it, but i will only have finished production photos...sorry about that. but, at least i can show them off on here as well. picked up the SRT-4, and loved it. still has that wobble at high speeds, but again i am thinking it may be lack of downforce on the rear, or where it was wet again. i like how fast it is. my SS had a higher top end, but i do belive TEXSRT4, you were right. it could possibly beat the SS. if it was a long endurance run, the SS might get me there. but....it still is more fun then the SS. FWD over RWD ...i do believe i like them alot better. but, back to the SRT...it is at home in it's garage....it shares it with the neon. wish i had a pedastal to pull the SRT on...ha ha ha...one of those rotating dealership pedastals....yeah, then the neon would surely love me then....better not go to far....still love the car. need to paint it, though. tired of red. already tired of it. all of them are red. thinking a deep black cherry would look great on it. maybe even mystik azzure black cherry...might go with that. the car is well worth it...need's a body kit. new hood, wing, etc....still thinking. need to wait until spring, but i just can't. i just got the damn thing, and already wantig to change it. i hate stock cars...the stereo goes tomorrow. got a new alpine dvd for it....hate stoc anything. new brakes, rotors, calipers...all that came in today. just deciding when to put it all on. probably next couple of days. will probably void the warranty all to hell, but too bad...just gonna have to deal with it....

went to wilwood and had them custom cast a set of calipers for it. i don't reccomend it...but, i hope it is worth it. after that, just a set of drilled/slotted rotors...nothing special about them. a little bit bigger, but that is about it...with my neon, i had gone to ******, and they wouldn't custom cast a set for it. i had disc brakes all around. with the SRT-4, i just went back to wilwood. they custom cast the one's all around the 96, so again they helped me with this item as well. the blanks are for a company that if i mention thier name, i will probably get sued...so, t is just blanks...works best like that...they fit alright, but are a bit...i don't know. they look good, but just...they are strong. extremely. but....i don't know how to say it. just funny, i guess. had to really work with them to make them fit right, but that is to be expected for something that is custom cast....and for the other post...get a job.

they are four piston calipers. all the way around. just as of now, 12" rotors. want to go bigger, but not too sure they will fit. wanted 14" rotors, but i think i will need a bigger wheel, then what i can fit on it. probably need a 24" rim, just for that. so, can't goquite that far. will upload pics in just a few days. have to go back to GA, to get a part for the old car prepped, and put on. less then a month before the photo shoot, and the rear end gets knocked off. how f*****g lame is that g*****n s**t?

nimitz23ky
12-16-2005, 06:43 AM
actually, no...not full of shit, or crap as you like to put it.i had to put a family member into the ground over the past weekend, and truthfully, i...no, just need to calm to fuck down. for any amount of money, anything can be created. why is, that when someone barely has money to do something, they say it is not possible. anything is possible. there is no E. Brake on the car. it is perfectly legal, just do not get caught. it will not pass any inspection. i am an architectural engineer, fifth year PhD student. so, you want to know where my funds come from, right there. when did this becaome an amoral place to want to know where someone's funds come from. anything can be done with money. i only spent what was needed since i was 19. i am now 29....10 years worth of saving, and now i am spending it....so, wilwood sells, right in any summit racing cat. or online, a custom made 4-piston race-only caliper. you just have to have it custom fit on your ride. they are 229.99 each. how impossible is that. no rear E.Brake, so that done away with an cables. how fucking hard is to to look around. go to summit racing, go to jegs. anyplace that sells racing equipment can usually get anything you need. that is what a custom cast is.
http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?Ntt=wilwood&searchinresults=false&Ntk=KeywordSearch&DDS=1&N=115&target=egnsearch.asp
go there, i'm sorry, they are 249.95 each....click on the part type, and then calipers. simplicity at it's foremost best. if you read the descrption, there is no place for a parking cable to be mounted. therefore, not needed. purebred, race version only...

there is more to braking that throwing on a caliper! and for the record, i do just as much buisness through wilwood directly as summit. i know all about fabrication. i still call BS
nimitz23ky
12-19-2005, 01:21 AM
call it whatever you want. i could care less. and i know, you can't just throw calipers on. they have to be sized properly, or you will scrape, and therefore they can't work. they have to e seated properly, or again, failure to stop. and, for all custom fabrcations, you can't just say, well this should work...it never will. especially on a brake part. it takes time. the calipers are at the house. the pads are at the house, and still we sit, night after night, trying to figure out a good setup for them. if i want, i will put the stocks back on, and just try driving and figuring it out. and, if you do so much fabrication, maybe you could lend some of your mind....try to figure out how to put them on properly....we just have the front tore down right now. with the rotor on, the wheel on, and the happy bright black caliper seated on the rotor, not bolted down, the wheel turns smoothly...so, the fit is good. just need a way to mount them properly. so TEXSRT4, if you do as much as you say, maybe if i send you all the schematics from the wilwood site, all the schematics from my front end, maybe one such as yourself could get them on....i found a site, something like custommadeautoworx.....something like that. said they sold a bracket that would stand up to the pressure, and mount perfectly....it looks nothing like what my front hub assembly does....nothing even remotely close...but, i will fax everything to you, and if you wouldn't care to lend some of your mind, try see if you can put this all on....no place around will do it. they all say, "it will void the warranty." well, no F*****G S**T! i already know that. another question? have you ever started a project, and then just got bored with it. have everything right in front of you, but then just got tired of it. not even want to look at it...the car is locked in the garage. i have not even looked at it in two days. the way i feel, it could just stay there, and i'll burn the damn house down with it in the garage...screw it all....bad week....sorry.....so TEXSRT4, you up for it?

truthfuly, i don't even know if i will even start on the car again. just totally bored with it. hate the stupid thing, actually. all that, and just tired of it. if i do decide to do it, to continue on with the idiotic car, then i will try to contact you, TEXSRT4, and see if you can think of some way of getting the brakes on. as of right now, the E.brake cable, springs, and even the handle are bundled up in a ziplock bag. not even worried about any of it. just sick of it. something about last week took everything out of me...too much to happen, so close to the holidays. but, it is over....just bored with the car. thought about borrowing a friends truck, and running the hell over it. alot that would accomplish as well. bout the same amount as torching the place. i just realized, this morning i was bored with the car. we spent all night trying to figure a mount for these things, and when i got up from looking at the car, i realized i was bored with it...but, if you can think of anything, any way to help get them on the car, then by all means tell me...help me out....i'd pay you for your troubles if you could draw it up for me. make a life-size, working schematic of it...just everything we think of, just not going to mount, and hold the caliper right....any help man, would be greatly appreciated

your car is nice looking. the brake setup looks great. thought about that, after seeing yours. then, it means i would have wasted this amount of cash for nothing, but surely i can use them someplace. how do i get ahold of stoptech? do they have a website or anything? would like to use all the calipers i have now, but just so bored with it right now. besides, my daily drive right now, it is a 91 eagle talon tsi awd..... live in a snowy, slushy, frozen wasteland....so, something that if bounced off a guardrail or wall, doesn't leave me out 24k....just a few thousand....it's almost all stock, just a few little bolt on's here and there. pulls great in the snow and ice....the srt4, still in the garage. not even been in there to see it in a few days. cold care less right now. but, i do gotta say, the front setup on yours looks great. looks real good, actually. but, if you could, how do i get ahold of stoptech?
