I have a 97 Monte with a 6 cylinder and runs fine till idle or start. Have to pump up the gas to get it started or when idles feels like it will die any second. I understand it has an electronic carb and I am about to due a tune up any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem with my 96 Z34. It needs gas to start and then when it finally fires up it idles really high and rough but one in gear is fine. I think it is an vaccum leak of some sort or maybe the lower intake gasket is bad. Im bringing my in to get a diagnostic test on wed. If they find the problem I'll let you know what it was.

I also have a 96 Z34 and it idles very rough at start and idles up and down for a few minutes and then smooths out.

Just wondering if you figured out what the problem was with yours.

ok frist thing...with the carb. take some carb cleaner...with car runing spray at base of carb..."not alot just a little at at time!" if the idle goes up you found you leak. this can also help with the other 2 cars posted in here. "DO NOT SPRAY CARB CLEANER ONTO SPARK PLUG WIRES OR ON COIL WILE CAR IS RUNNING!" you can also try this at around the intake gaskets. if you have a scaner that would be great...watch the O2 sen and see if the readings get real high when you spray.
