I have two 12inch subs in my 97 Monte. They were installed at best buy with no on/off switch for the amp. So the amp was always draining my batt. My sub box also has LEDs hooked up to the amp so that was taking power to. So I wanted to put a switch in, and they told my I can just cut the Remote line from the head unit(stock) to the amp and put one in. So today I tried it and it was not good. My stereo doesn't work at all anymore and my anti-lock light came on. Then I took the switch out and connected the wires back togather and its still messed up. But like everything else works fine, even the bottons on the head unit light up at night, just the display screen doesn't come on. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?????? Thanks

The anti-lock light is a common problem in the monte carlo, many times it is the sensor at the wheels. First of all, if you had your stereo professionally installed, they should have hooked up the remote turn on line correctly so that it should have turned the amp off and on. it sounds like they just hooked it to a live wire instead. get that checked out, for now put the switch back on the wire and make sure it is in the right direction if you have a switch that matters. then check the antilock and stereo fuses.. it may not hurt to even replace them whether or not they are fully blown. but first of all take the stereo back to best buy and make them look over the car, they should be responsible for the stereo wiring. sorry i dont know if this will be any help but i hope its a start..

Best Buy definately did not install the remote wire correctly...if you want to quick fix it trace the remote wire to were they put it remove it an tie it on to the radio fuse which is located in the fuse box inside the car at the passenger door. you can run the wire out of the dash and under the kick panel to the trunk. it shouldnt take much more then ten mins to do....its how i have mine ran and it works fine.
