ok, so typical kid, never use to wear safty glasses, didnt think about where i put my hands (unless in a machine shop, im talken auto repair) untill today, was at work, doing an intake on a 95 cutlass that blew the plastic intake, the damn thing left a plastic guide in the head, so i got the dental pick out and started at it... not paying attention i moved my right hand and the fatigued plastic snapped and the dentist pick went THROUGH my finger, it didnt stab me, it went in through the first finger, palm side, at the tip, and exited just to the outside of the finger nail (side you cut not the quick). Not looking to be an attention whore, but c'mon guys dont do like me, take the time to think about what the hell your doing, put the pain in the ass safty glasses on, or a sheild if using a torch... and for god's sake, if working on something electrical ALWASE disconnect the battery, on the ignition system its your safty and if disconnecting the ecm/pcm its for the computers safty to not fry it...

Your right Doug, we should all follow those rules.
A few days ago I was prying on a plastic clip under the hood of my Blazer, and I'm glad that I binked at the right time.
And today I replaced the waterpump, and while wire wheeling the bolts clean 1 of them flew out of my vice grips.
I never did find this bolt, or even hear it hit anything.
Tomorrows plans are all nice safe jobs, where I can't get hurt.
Although 2 out of 3 are dirty jobs :(

I have always worked safely in my garage (Proper eye, ear, hand, etc. protection). I have had a few "close" calls but nothing major that required any medical attention. I also work on an industrial construction site where working safely is a mandatory requirement. We have people constantly watching us ... we have to plan out our daily work so everyone understands exactly what the job is, how it is done and any potential hazzards. The rule on site is you can be fired immediately if any safety policy is not being followed. So I take that experience and follow it at home as well.
Even when I cut the grass, I am wearing ear protection, safety glasses and steel toe, steel sole work boots.
I have gotten into the habit of putting most of my safety gear on before I leave the house to go out to the garage. Then I have the extra gear for welding, grinding, sandblasting, etc.
Also, make sure all your tools are working properly and are in good condition, if not throw them out and replace them.
No point in getting injuried, or worse, trying to enjoy your hobby.

How would safety glasses have prevented you from hurting your finger? :screwy:

I've seen someone look for a fuel leak on their bike with a zippo. Believe it or not.... he found the leak, and didn't catch anything on fire..... there's a special kind of luck for stupid people. *
*Disclaimer - Just because one person has done something successfully, doesn't mean that it's right or safe. If you try it you are still a dumbass, and if you succeed, it just means that you are a lucky dumbass.

to +...
i've seen some people going under their car w/ only the spare tire jack in place.... use jackstands!
apparently, one thought he was just going under there for a short time to secure his exhaust system/ change out the fuel filter... but I'm not a betting man when it comes to a 2 ton vehicle crushing me.

I usually take a floor jack with me when I'm going off roading just because I don't trust those stock jacks on anything less than ashfault.
And the stock S10 jack is the best factory jack that I've ever seen.
Good Job Chevy!
