IDLE: super high/extra low........

1999 SL2.

Idle jumps to 2000 after a short while, sometimes, AND sometimes drops off and won't idle high enough to keep the engine running.

I have reviewed the other similar posts and understand about the Idle Air Control....... I want to know if this is a common problem, or if anybody else can suggest other area's to troubleshoot.

I don't think its an intake leak because it is intermittant. I'm not saying that it doesn't have a leak (I will check) but there is something else going on as well.

hey welcome to the club, this seems to be a really common problem i havea simular problem without the drop down in idle, but she'll shoot up from time to time when im in neutral

i cant really tell you what the problem is becuase i havnt solved mine and ive been trying for a few mts.. but cleaning the IAC, the EGR and getting a new PCV, as well as cleaning out the Intake Manifold with carb cleaner its a really good start, but didnt really help me..

if you figure it out please tell me, ive been told that it can be related to driving habits but mine are pretty good and it dosnt seem to specifically come on the crappy days when i have a shakky leg or somthing.. so i doubt thats the problem

when it shoots up to 2000 RPM does quickly turning the engine off and on again wthout actually stoping it make the idle go down?? b/c it does for me and if thats the case i think it might be a sensor problem b/c resetting the computer stops it, and that wouldnt stop a vaccuum leak.. so that might help you figure out what it is
