I have had my Silverado since March 2005. Since then I have tried to clean the inside of the windshield at least 4 times, with no success. There are mainly a bunch of smudges on it, and i have been using windex and a paper towel. Does anyon have a better method that may clean it better. There is no film-type tint on the windshield

Try windex and a sheet of news paper.

You could try just vinegar mixed with water, maybe about a cup of vinegar to a gallon of water, that works fairly well. But the best way i have found to clean windows is to use a Real Leather chamois not an imitation one, and a bucket of hot water. That is it , do not add anything to the water and just rinse the chamois often

I'm mainly glad u didn't call it a "shammy" like so many ppl do.

Glass cleaner and newspaper does work good. I think I have heard of the coffee filter one before, but never tried it.

Ok I've heard of the newspaper thing on a few different threads on the forum, and I'm not doubting you guys at all, but how does this work? Newspaper is FILTHY!!!! Have you ever looked at your hands and seen what is left behind when you read one? How in the name of Zues' butthole (if I may quote the movie "The Rock") can that possibly clean glass?!?!?!?!

Heh, Zeus's butthole, that's great. The Rock is pretty much my fav movie, which is why I find that humorous.

Let me tell you Rocky, I'm not a hundred percent sure as to how or why, but it has something to do with the newsprint picking everything up (hey look, it was recommended to me by a fish!!!) But seriously, I've been using newsprint to clean glass and mirrors since 1980 and it works great... no smudges... no streaks... just clean glass!!! Oh yeah, black-n-white only... no color!!!

i use the armorall window wipes and to clean and then a microfiber towel to wipe any streaks away and it looks perfect and then i use the towel about once every few weeks to keep any dust dirt fingerprints that get on there off.

here is the deal, NEVER EVER USE VINAGER WATER!!!!!!! it destories you factory window tint. That is what turnes it purple. There is a camical called invisable glass. It is sold at auto zone it is kinda expensive but works GREAT. it is about $5 a can. last long time tho. dealers use it. And the news papre thing works good with it to.

Well considering he was asking about cleaning the windshield.............. I don't know about the laws where you are but here it is illegal to have any amount of tint on the windshield. I also disagree with the comment about the vinegar and water turning tint purple, it is the brand of tint that does that after it gets old. I know a few people that tint windows for a living and they do not use those certain brands for that reason.

Your rear window and if you have a extended cab thoes windows have a factory tinit on them. And if you look at the bottem left hand corner of your side windows you will see a % that is how much the factory tint is. And you are right about the brand of tint. But vineger is also a factor. If you look on the bottel of invisable glass it says safe for tinted windows.

Well like i said , he was specifically asking about the windshield but either way......... I do have an extended cab as you can see in my sig and the factory tint on the back windows is not a film type tint anyhow it is tinted glass itself , so that is not going to turn purple. Although i also had tint added on top of the factory tint as well.

Wow.........
vinager?
destories?
turnes?
camical?
invisable?
news papre?

First of all......SPELL CHECK.
Second of all.....good tint does not turn colors for anything.
Third of all......windshields are not tinted.

One more thing....find me a factory tint that is a film.

You sure do know your stuff man.

You misspelled right wrong lol. My comment was more to the fact that you are the one arguing about using vinegar on tinted windows cause it will turn the tint purple, it is not the vinegar that does it but the poor quality of tint. Blender was asking about cleaning a WINDSHIELD , you can not legaly tint a windshield so why even bring up the fact of vinegar turning tint purple when that is not even the issue. And thirdly like 99redsilverado said , show me a factory tinted window such as the rear ones on the extended cab trucks that is a film type tint like you say it is. SO to end this , my comment was more to you not knowing a whole lot about factory tint and the fact of vinegar turning tint color. Get over it and accept the fact you were wrong , learn from it , move on and have a nice day.

*UPDATE* Well, I was out of town all weekend, until last night, so I missed a lot of this thread. Anyway, by coincidence, I looked at Invisible Glass (I was at Wal Mart), but then I looked right next to it, and there was some Gunk Foaming Glass Cleaner that was about half the price of invisible glass. It worked very well and took all the smudges and streaks out, and I was very pleased.

Actually, newspaper worked much better in the old days. It had to do with the ink in the paper and certain chemicals that were in the ink. Remember the days when newspapers would rub off the ink? That kind of ink is not used anymore. I suspect the paper is just working like any other...i.e. paper towels, etc. I have good luck using an artificial chamois with clear water. I clean the outside with strokes up and down and the inside with cross strokes. That way if there are any streaks I know which side they're on.

Ditto on the newspaper and windex, been doing it that way for 15 years--still don't know how, but it works!
