Engine Bogs

I have a 1968 Chevelle with a 350 and a Holley Street Avenger 650cfm carb. When i mash the pedal at a stand still in drive, the engine will bog for a second and then kick in. If I'm cruising along and then mash the pedal it won't bog. Do I need to set my fast idle at a slightly higher RPM so when it's in drive it idles a little faster, or is my mix too rich or too lean? Any ideas would help.

The avenger carb has vaccuum secondaries correct? It sounds like the secondaries are opening up too fast. Pick up a spring kit for the secondaries and replace the spring with a stiffer one. This should hopefully fix your problem. :)

I have to press the pedal slightly and then mash it in order for it not to bog. It makes sense since it's opening up the secondaries when I slightly press the pedal.

I checked out Holley's website and in their online manual they talk about a black spring that increases fuel economy and a yellow spring that increases performance.

Yes, try the black one (stiffest) first. If that fixes the prob, you can work your way back with lighter springs until it bogs again and then go back to the lightest spring used before it started bogging. Let us know how it turns out. :)
