Hey Everyone,
I am looking into purchasing a 2006 Grand Vitara. It has the 6 cylinder 2.7 engine, and hoping their engine and trans are durable.
Are suzuki's considered reliable vehicles? I really want to purchase a vehcile that will really last me a long time... I am talking about well over 200,000 miles.
Please can someone give me some honest feeback on Suzuki vehicles?
BTW, I live in Michigan we have pretty harsh winters here. Plus the salt that they spread on the road due to the ice.
Thank you.

Just got a 06 last week. It's replacing an Olds Bravada (that we're keeping). I am totally impressed with the Grand Vitara! Roomy, comfortable, quick and really nice looking. Chose the 2-wheel drive and am impressed with the "ESP" traction and suspension control. Try to spin it out when taking off in the rain (just to see if it compares to Olds' Smartrak), and it wouldn't spin the tires, just took off. So far it's gotten 20 mpg around town, expect to get around 28 on trips to NJ and Biloxi, MS. I honestly can't think of one bad point about the vehicle (so far). I highly recommend it.

Suzuki vehicles will last forever if properly maintained. Well, at least those built by Suzuki. Not the Forenza or Verona that are built by Daewoo. Anyways, the 2.7L V6 is a very good engine, and will last a long time. The only problem I have seen is a front cover leak on them, which we do quite often. With the 100k mile powertrain warranty, you will have awhile before having to worry about replacing it yourself. However, by taking the front cover and valve covers off so many of these motors, you can tell if someone maintains their vehicle properly. Make sure you change the oil every 3k miles on it, with good oil. The ones we've had apart where the customer goes 5-7k miles b/t oil change, and goes to Jiffy Lube, there is tons of crystalized oil covering everything. One motor we fill about two 1 gallow ziplock bags full of these crud. Those that change their oil regularly with a quality oil, we don't see near the problems with. I've been here over 3 years, and have only replaced 2 2.7L engines. One was a fluke, I ca'nt remember what exactly it was, it was a couple years ago. The other one was from another shop that did some work on it, and screwed something up. I think they did transmission work and left the bell housing bolts loose, or torque converter bolts loose, and it messed up the crank bearings. Overall, and very good and reliable car. Definaly a good buy.

My wife and I just bought a 2006 Grand Vitara Luxury, we love. I was a bit worried about Suzuki quality at first, but once you drive it you will love it. I was impressed with the power, the interior is refined and really gives the feel of luxury at a suzuki price. I noticed in the engine compartment there is sound proofing on the fire wall which really helps keep it quiet and cool inside the cabin. The power windows work great, fast up and down, the AC is tremendous, the fan blows and incredible amount of air. All the doors shut nice and firmly, I wouldnt expect this on a suzuki. I am a new found believer in suzuki after this purchase. A great value, spend the money on the four wheel drive luxury, the leather is so nice, def worth it.
