another dumb question...what is all the B16, B16C5, B18, B22HA, all the B-number things.....like i said, this is my first honda...or no, i do not think i said that but now i have...and yes, i can change an engine, just need some technical help on deciding or rather knwing what to do with this waste as well....(i miss my DSM)......but no need to get into that....just, what do all these numbers with letters and letters with numbers mean. i have great knowledge on engines and crap, just not on honda.....

No, you don't have the technical knowledge to do anything to a car if you can't even figure out how to use the search features of this forum.

Search > You

And if you think your new little civic is such a waste... why bother?

that is a stupid qeustion...they're engine codes...go google up honda engine codes...and it will show you all of the different codes...

B...stands for the series...in this case...a B-series motor
16/18- stands for the displacement....1.6L 1.8L

there are many more such as h-series motors, k-series, d-series, and f-series....go and buy d15 from ebay and turbocharge that in you civic up to 20psi...

all vehicles are a waste. every single one of them. just the way i speak, until i have heavily modified the shit outta them. a stock car serves me no purpose, except to go from point A, to point B....and besides, the only engines i have ever truly built are all V8's....so, these small 4 cyl cars are not really up my alley. the only one i have ever built is my DSM, and i had it done for me. so, B16, B18, B20....none of it makes alot of sense for me, since i am always looking up 305, 327, 350, 396, 400, 427....those are displacement sisves i work with....but, since no one really wants to help, i suppose just fuck it....

B16, B18, B17, D16 are all engine codes. Just like your old DSM had various engine codes too.

B series engines are DOHC
D series are SOHC
F series are S2000 motors
C series is the NSX motor
H series is the US spec Prelude motor
etc...

the number after that is the engine size: B16 is a 1.6L DOHC, B18 = 1.8L DOHC

are u serious? i'm not trying to flame, but giving false info deserves a correction.
D-series came in a DOHC as well
F-series was in the Prelude, Accord, and Odyssey long before the S2000 was even dreamt of
C-series is also in the CL, TL, TSX, RL, MDX, Pilot, Ridgeline, Accord, Odyssey, and i'm sure i missed one or two acuras
H-series is in Japanese Preludes as well and that would make those J-spec

Then there is also, the K-series (RSX, Element, Accord, CRV), and the R-series. anyone know wut the R-series is in? the 06 Civic it's a 1.8L SOHC w/ 140hp

And some of the SiR Accord models in Japan and Europe.

The F series in the S2000 is an engine largely unique to the S2000, its quite differnt to the F series used for decades in the Accord/Prelude etc etc.

thank u, i wasn't sure wut other cars outside the US had the H-series, i do believe the 97-00 Accord Type R had the F20B though (215 hp DOHC), and that was the predecessor to the F20C in the S2000. as for the F-series being unique to the S2000, i understand, the F-series found in the Prelude, Odyssey, and USDM Accord was SOHC, and the F20B and F20C are DOHC.

but please do inform me if i miss things. i'm not hear to say i know it all, i know i don't.

No one jumped on his back just expanded on his rules of thumb.

as we mostly know the C motor also is SOHC in the older RL
F20c is now 2.2L

stuff like that I dont think anyone is going to throw a tanturm for more info

hence we leave posts open as more people veiw them more info is added helping the thread starter more and more.
