B16 Swap

Here is a question that I am sure has been brought up millions of times but I am short on it and don't have that much computer time during the day to do searches... Ok here it goes

I have a neighbor that just bought a 96' Civic with the base motor in it I don't know if its a VTEC or what and I don't know a damn thing about these cars. The point is that I want to make her car faster and swap out the baby single over head for something with some power but I don't want to spend a lot because I am using her money. I heard about B16's and that they have a lot of potential but how much do they cost what B16 is worth the money if I can't spend a lot. Also is the B16 even the route that I need to take to make an affordable swap maybe even a factory Si Motor...

Another great question is what do I need to do with the factory computer/ECU or wire harness to make this run like it should? Maybe there is a site on the internet somewhere that explains all of this and more.

By the way I am not sure if it is an auto or manual so I hope that doesn't matter.

So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you don't know enough about the vehicles or have enough time to do the proper research, don't even think about messing someones car up like that.

Good answer, read some more, search some more, think some more.

Ok look I came across wrong I do have the experiance but I didn't think I had to convince everyone of that to get an answer but I appretiate you all looking out for the well being of someone elses car. However I do have the know how in this situation I just thought that I could get a few of my questions answered quickly before I start doing searches because I run out of computer time quickly. Any help would be greatly appretiated.
Thanks
