Car Wont Stay Runnig - Help

Ok, Here's the deal when I crank my car its kinda slugish and if I put it drive is really starts acting up. If im driving and press the gas the car seems to rev high then it kills out. sometimes it wont even crank or it will just die I dont know what to do. I just changed the water pump becuse it was leaking. but it was doing this before I changed it. during the process of changing the water pump I made sure that the timing belt was in good shape and it was like new... checked and made sure that the gear were in time and they were actuly off a little but I set them. and everyting else looks good. .. Im really confused.. if anyone has any suggestion or knows what may be going on. please let me know.
