84 Caprice... 68,000. The engine was heavily beat on by the previous owner though, so I'm going to have to rebuild it.

I have a 1996 Chevy Caprice Classic. Lately the check engine light always goes on. It says multipul misfires on 1 & 3.
I had new spark plugs put in and new wires. The runs good and I don't notice any difference in pick up when I need it..I remove the check engine light with my gadget but a few days later it comes on again.I am asking anyone for some information that can help befor i am going to pay for something I might not need. Could there be that I might need a new roter in the distributer?
Some one said that every 30,000 miles you should change it. My car has 80,000 miles . Need help.

My 1979 Caprice, 350 V8 has 187,000 miles, all city/cold start driving. Not easy miles.
Original Engine and Transmission. Amazingly, the starter is original, as is the alternator, fuel pump, distributor and rotor, everything else.
Only new parts are water pump, muffler/exhaust, heater core, signal light switch, windshield pump. That is literally it!!! $250 in parts for 27 yrs driving... can't complain Never been left on the side of the road, never not started... best car ever made

Before I sent my 1991 1A2 wagon to the junkyard, it had 286,000. Still ran fine, trans was due for another fluid change, (it starts slippin when the fluid gets old) The problem was it came from an agency that uses salt, a lot of salt on the winter roads. I used the car untill the gas tank fell out while doing 70 on the Thruway.
