Tools used:
Photoshop 6
Illustrator 10
Jeri Clow's tutorials
Ok after spending many many many hrs trying to figure out how to do this channel stuff Lemorris keeps talking about, I finally got some progress on my Cobra. I am doing it exactly how Jeri teaches in her tut. I am using the same colors as her Mustang.
Here is the orange.

Here is one example of the advantages of channels.
I changed the color in about 1 minute by creating two more channels.
I didn't put in the fades but I just wanted to show the versatility of this method.

nice
keep goin
remember you can use the gradient tool on just a basic linear blend in any selected shape then you can go back into your just created gradient with the airbrush and some color and tweak it.
I see many channels too...remeber using 50% blue in an area and then 50% red in that same area will make purple. By adjusting the percentage as you fill you can achieve great color ranges. By clicking on the foreground color square in the tools pallet you can adjust it's grey level or you can set the percentage in the individual tool pallet at the top of the page.
Keep going...you'll learn much and even if you don't like it you can come back to it another time and hook it up.

That looks great. I have had her tuts for several months, but just haven't got anything to the level you've reached.
(Acrylic and Expression 3 were easy for me to learn, but not the same with Illy and PS.)

Can you explain that in more detail?
I know where the gradient tool is. I haven't read anything about that in Jeri's tut. She likes to use the brush tool w/ a blur and large diameter for her fades.
Blip, have you emailed Jeri to ask her for clarification w/ your problem?
What is your problem perhaps Lemorris and I can help.
I know I had to read and re-read and then read some more untill I understood what was going on to start getting this stuff.
It is finally coming all-together kind of like VB programming in school but that is another story :)

Al, I can do the first half of the process by making the line drawing, but my PS skills are very weak
which is holding me back from understanding and doing the color channels stuff.
I'm starting over again with PS to correctly learn the basics first, than on to the coloring seps.
I can color in vector (E-3/Acrylic), but the bitmap painting tools of PS are driving me crazy.

Blip make sure to do her flame, eye, and pool ball tutorial.
You have her newbie tut right?
Which is harder?... on a screen or on paper?
This is more time consuming, but than again this is my first one and I am stumbling through it. :) [/quote]

Like Blip said it can be hard (channel stuff). I had a lil bit of experience w/ PS and it is taking me a long time to get this far. It takes work and dedication.
Thx Lemorris for the word of encouragement. I am hanging in there.
More progress

It is a lil ruf, I need to work on fading w/ the brush, but I am happy w/ it so far. This is going to take some practice.
Thx for peeping it

It looks great.
And I did get both CDs, but I've only worked with the Auto Tut.
I'll start on the "Newbie Edition" now, thanks for the advise.

No prob. Blip
Lemorris, I think I messed up some of the trapping lines.
Here is my finished work.
Many thanks to Lemorris and Jeri
I went slack on the logo (no chrome), but hey it is 1960's graphic arts. :) The cobra looks good for my first channel render. I have lots of practice to go still. I like the side pipe, lil window, and mirror the best. I had problems w/ the chrome wheels. I should have found a reference for those rims.
Thx for checking it out.

Awesome work Al! Just my opinion, but I think a cast shadow from the fenders/wheelwells onto the tires would improve it a bit. how'd you do the background? Just a random abstract pentool design?

Sorry it has been awhile.
Yes I should have added more of a cast shadow. The background is just a pentool thing from Adobe Ill. I wanted to just get something there instead of spending more time for a nice background. It does look out of place now that I think about it.
Thx Alex, Blip, and the whole crew

That is really cool!
I love the wheels and tires.
Great to see all of this digital stuff. It is nodoubt the best way to make the shiny surface of a car.
My style is so bootleg compared to what you and lemorris
are doing with ps. I learned my stuff from coloring comics.
Cool that yall are doing it right and learning by using her car toots.
