what the factory horse power for a 92 SC2 DOHC. and what are all the options for increasing it?

Well the hp is probably around 124. The performance options are totally uo to what you want to do and how much you want to spend.

so factory hp is 124? is that good or bad? what are any options, suggestions, or idea?

I think a nice intake and exhaust are what you should be looking at first. Just start searching around and I'm sure you'll find a Saturn performance website with those parts.

what all would be included in the exhaust? the whole system, headers down to the muffler? also how relyable are the performance parts found on ebay? the cheaper the worse quality or not?

I don't think Saturn and Horsepower should be used in the same sentence....

Go for the full exhaust system. But don't forget to buy something for the intake as well. As of the ebay parts I'm not to sure about that.

I bought an SL1 1.9 litre SOHC 5 speed as an economy car. This car is funny it burns 1 quart of oil for every tank of gas. I was at college the other day with my brother and we were on our way out. We were sitting at a 2 way stop and I waited so it was my turn. I start pulling out and some stupid girl thinks it's her turn and she is about to pull out right into me. I very calmly just pushed my foot to the floor and what do I hear? (That is right this little thing does have something) It burned tire for about 10 feet. We were sitting there laughing our asses off. I never though it possible for a beat up 1995 with a 1.9 to do that but crazier things have happened.

First, you have a 92 model car so you have the free flowing header i assume (i have one too on my 97 sl2) so i would stick with that if you wanna save money. a cold air intake is a must too. i would go with the AEM version and get their bypass valve (shuts off the relocated air filter if it is immersed in water so it doesn't go in the engine) but there isn't anything wrong with getting one from ebay. You can also get the throttle body at www.spswebpage.com or you can widen it more yourself with power tools or something (a grazer works best). I don't know if there are any exhaust kits for the 92 (probably are) or you can custom make one. either way, it's worth it. A muffler helps too but the source varies. I recently bought an APC titanium muffler a few days ago for $50 (retail is $300) but haven't received it yet so i will get back on that and see if i'm getting screwed (pretty sure i won't). Lastly, which i'm not sure about is the $400 intake manifold from www.spswebpage.com. I plan on getting this hopefully in the next few months but don't know how effective it will be on the saturn nor if it is available for the 92 (if anyone knows you should post). To sum up, you wanna increase the airflow from the header and as it exits the car; the easiest way to make horsepower for good money. ebay is an okay source, just be careful and smart on what you choose. there are a lot of options so you should look at many.

i would advise against the SPS intake manifold expect for high RPM race and F/I engines. the increased runner diameter allows for more air at the cost of velcotiy. it increases the peak HP RPM(and the stock peak HP RPM is already just shy of the redline) at the cost of decreaseing lower RPM power.

its just my 2 cents
remember, real engine builder don't just buy any part that seems like a good idea. or parts one by one. they research, design, set a goal output/result, and buy matching parts. just bolting on parts can infact cause a loss of power(in my school's power and performance class that was the frist dyno test we did, a common aftermarket add-on that infact caused a loss of power). a good engine builder can build a better engine with less resources then a uneduicated engine builder.

a few mods you can do remove egr and block with a metal plate i recently raised the compression ratio in my 93 sl2 dohc by using a sohc block and internals.i got rid of the rev limiter by putting a auto pcm on manual trans (pain in the ass)

frist, removing the EGR can cause excessive combustion chamber temps, and even possible engine damage. second, i'm sorry to inform you but to the best of my knowage DOHC heads and pisions has higher compression then a DOHC head and SOHC pistons(that what the turbo guys say, they like low compression)

I have a 75shot nitrous express kit on the the SOHC block with the DOHC fully ported/polished head with no EGR and no problems yet.The turbos going on in the next week or two.

i got injectors out of a 01 mustang GT for the nitrous system.the turbo is a 14b tdo5h from 1st gen eclipse, dsm 450 injectors,FMU. I think the stock fuel pump will work but,i'll probably go with a sps fuel pump.I have a found a turbo manifold for it too.

do you now anyone who put turbo nitrous on anything?the stock fuel pressure about 43psi .adding around 5psi of boost witch adds an extra 30psi of pressure add that to the stock 43psi and your at about 73psi. the max fuel pressure for 91-96 saturns is around 65-75 i think that straining the pump a little dont you think?

Will removing the EGR-Valve really do damage to the engine, my EGR-Valve is going bad on my '95 SC2 DOHC, a mechanic told me that you don't really need to have it on the engine. So now I'm a little confused as to what to do with it, I took it off today and I have it soaking in carb cleaner to see if that will give me a little more life before I have to replace it, money is a little tight right now. billy, how are you pulling a turbo off? did you find a kit or are you fabing your plumbing? i cant find a kit and have no bender or welder. how much hp are you making with juice?

The EGR system is designed to cool combustion temperatures by filling the combustion chamber with inert gas from the exhaust stream. If you take it off the combusion tempurature will be higher than it is supposed to be. This can result in long term damage such as Valve seat recession. Its not worth it. You gotta build your own engine and design it yourself before you do something like take the EGR system out. Just a thought for you to enjoy...
