You will need to know if your compressure is working.. Do you hear it click on when you turn on the AC or hear any changes if so your blend door my be bad.. But need to rule out the compressure first... You may want to check your fuses first..

I Just Finished Checking The 99 Windstar Lx And When I Turned The Ac On I Did Hear A Click Just Like You Said. What Does That Mean? How Do I Fix It? If I Take It To A Shop How Much Will They Charge? Is It Guranteed That The Ac Will Work? Is There Anything Else That I Should Check? Thanks

My guess is . . .
CLICK, with no cold air, means
0. $25 fix!
1. Go to an auto parts store.
2. Pay $25 for an A/C pressure solenoid, for you're Windstar.
3. Swap it out.
Done.

CK"S suggestion is a good idea.. Too rule out one problem, with AC off. slide your temp controls to heat.. slowly slide back to cool. listen under the dash for a clunking sound. If you hear no noise that will rule out the blend door that gives alot of windstar owners problems. Also check too make sure the heat gets cooler because you will be running the out air vent so there will be a noticable diffrence..just in case there is not a noise that too is a sign your blend door motor maybe not working. The click I was asking for sound to me like the compressure is engaging if it keeps clicking on and off your freon level maybe low but CK"S post above also may be the solenoid..

I WILL TRY CK'S IDEA. I WILL BUY THE AC SOLENOID. ILL REPLY ONCE I TRY THAT AND SEE HOW IT WORKS.

I did slide my controls to heat and I did hear a clunking sound. Then I turned on the heat and then I lowered it to cool and the air came in cooler. Also, when I turned on the van I did hear a click sound then it stopped. Should I buy the solenoid? Will it work?

We have a 99 windstar and the a/c wasn't working. It was blowing cool air but it wasn't cold. All we needed was freon. Cost $50.00 done at our local mechanics. Now it gets darn right cold. Maybe, if you are getting cool air and not cold you just need freon.

Well if the heat was getting cooler then the blend door is still working.. Keep in mind your blend door motor may be going..not the motor it self but the gears they slip and thats were you get the clunking sound, really
from the blend door taping the box area because the motor gears are slipping.. Another suggesstion with every thing off the engine that is and AC off Keep the ignition on.. engine off and slide the temp control back too cool all the way and slide to heat all the way if you hear the clunking sound it maybe that your blend door is not going all the way too cool..If thats the case you need to replace that motor. But first rule out the low freon and solenoid first....It sounds like in other post your AC compressure is kicking in but if it were to keep kicking on and off there may be a low freon problem or pressure solenoid... Its frustrating I know
but being that we are online its hard to tell with the windstar it could be one of the things though... If it were the blend door motor it runs about 56.00 and only can be found at the dealer, forget the junk yard...you could get another bad one. Keep us posted..

I think that first I should buy the freeon and put it in and see how that works. If that doesn't work then I should go with the pressure solenoid. I think it should be fixed then but if its not then I should buy the blend door motor like you said. I hope it doesn't go that far because I dont want 2 waste too much money. Ill tell you how it goes once I get the freeon. Thanks

I WAS CHECKING THE FUSES YESTERDAY AND I FOUND THAT 1 OTHER FUSE WAS NOT WORKING. REMEMBER #1 WAS THE LIGHTS. THE OTHER 1 THAT I SAW THAT DID NOT WORK WAS #23. ITS FOR BODY POWERPOINT, AUXILIARY BLOWER RELAY #1 AND #2. DO YOU THINK THAT COULD BE FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER. I THINK I WILL REPLACE IT TODAY AND SEE HOW THAT GOES. ALSO I NEVER CHECKED THE FUSE BOX IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I THINK THAT MAYBE 1 OR 2 FUSES THERE WILL BE OUT. MAYBE.......IN THERE I SEE THAT FUSE #3 IS FOR THE A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH. MAYBE THAT WILL NOT WORK. AND ALSO #7 THAT IS FOR THE REAR WINDOW WIPER. MAYBE THAT WILL NOT WORK. AND ALSO #19. THAT IS FOR CANISTER VENT SOLENOID. I THINK THAT I SHOULD CHECK THE FUSES FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE. SHOULD I DO THAT? I WILL CHECK IT OUT AND SEE IF THEY WORK TODAY. ILL REPLY AND ILL KEEP US POSTED UP WITH MORE INFORMATION.THANKS

Yesterday I tried putting in 2 cans of freeon to test if the van needed it. I found out there was a leak in one of the hoses that runs under the radiator at the bottom. There are 2 but I think that one of them is leaking. Should I replace the hose myself or take it to the shop? Around how much should it cost? thanks in advance

As for the cost you will need to find the hose thats leaking because usally one may cost more than the other.. Check out Advance auto or pep boys or Auto zone and other parts places for price.Call around.. You could do it but that depends on how comfortable you are with doing it.
If you want to take it too a shop best thing is ask your friends or coworkers they may know someone to refer you too..Depends on were you live as for price but I figure around no more than 200.00 bucks and to me thats high..if you take it to the shop parts and around the average of 50.00 an hour labor rate.. Parts and you do it your self is cheaper.. If thats the only problem you have with the AC

I looked some of the hoses up on Advanced Auto parts.com they run from 24- 56.00 bucks around that depending on what hoses it is the 2 main ones are the most 42 - 56.00 . one other note check to make sure its not an o- ring leak from the hose. that is a cheap replacement. they do sell leak decector as well..

alright, i dont want 2 spend that much money it is alot, it might be an o-ring leak but how do i know, do those pipes just slide out because on one side i dont see nothing to loosen, does it just come out, how much would a leak detector cost?
