flashing o/d light

Please help. We have a 2001 Windstar. The van runs fine, except when driving for extended time on the interstate. The o/d light will sometimes come on and begin flashing. When this has happened we pull to the side and turn the engine off. When the engine is restarted the light is off. We don't notice a change in the way the van drives. What seems to be the problem with our van?

A flashing O/D light means you have an OBDII trouble code that has been set for your transmission. Allowing the light to blink (or not) does note effect anything (except your mental state perhaps).

You need to go get the code pulled and use this forum to search and post it here for replys/comments.

I am having the same problem and have had it to the place I bought it over and over again. Unfortunately, I now notice a difference in the performance of the van. I am leaving for Gatlinburg (about 5 hours away) next friday morning and am scared to go. Please, let me know what you find out. My code is only reading that a sensor is stuck, but it runs soooo rough when the od light comes on.

Have the dtc read as soon as possible. Perhaps its just a stucked trans sensor, but this can cause several damage. Be careful with trans problems. A sensor may cost just a few $ but a trans damage can easily cost a few 100 $. In Autozone the code are read without charge

I have had it back to the shop several times. Where I work, one department has one of those code readers and he is supposed to bring it over this afternoon and hook me up. I just hope that someone can figure it out. I am also going to get the tires looked as I read that in other posts. Thanks.
