99Windstar electrical

My rear left turn signal is stuck on. Even when the car is off and the key removed. The Haynes (?) manual we bought doesn't even show the same relay box as is on my windstar so we are a bit stumped. We don't think it is the replay as the front turn signal works fine and according to the wiring diagram, they are connected...

When we went to test the light, it went off and seemed fixed... until we opened the rear hatch and the light stuck on again. ARG!
I have had lots of electrical problems before. In fact, I have to keep my dome lights off all the time as they won't go off when the doors are closed. My door open indicator will stay on even when the doors are all closed, but then after driving for a while my locks will suddenly lock and unlock rapidly a few times before the door indicator light goes off...

I can live with the silly dome lights and even my possessed door locks, but the turn signal I need... we are about to tear the column down and replace a $100 part (turn signal switch) unless anyone has any other ideas...
Thanks!!!!!

Go to the auto store and buy a can of WD-40. Spray it all around and in the door latch and into the keyholes. Work the doors a few times. Your dome light problem should now be fixed. Common problem, at least with the Taurus. Windstars should be no different.
As for the signals, it likely is the switch you mentioned. Funny things with turn signals and wiper action trace to it. You can spray WD-40 down the hazard switch opening as dust and dirt damage the switch from that point. This may help. Other than that, remove and clean or replace the switch.

We found the problem!! The jack had come loose and was sitting on the wire harness inside the little cubby where the jack sits...
WHEW! took all day, but NO COST!
Thank you March for your suggestions.... we cleaned the contacts just in case.. :)

I have a similiar problem with my locks, door light and door indicator. Where was the jack that had come loose, you said it was in a cubby. I appreciate the help.

Alas.. finding the jack only help the turn signal light that was stuck on...shorted out a wire.... I still have problems with the door indicator, etc.... many here said to clean the contacts... that sometimes helps..

The cubby is the little jack holder that is in the right rear inside panel..

NOW..... my check engine light is on..... Just had to have the transmission replaced and less than 2 weeks later, the light comes on...
sigh..... seems to never end...

More than likely it is the rear hatch door ajar switches. The procedure for cleaning them is described in a couple of earlier emails.

This is a common Windstar problem and the common fix of cleaning the sliding dooer contacts is incorrect. Theses contacts have nothibg to do with the door ajar switches

The door ajar switch is also linked the the dome lights and automatice door locks
