I've searched the forum, but no information on towing limits. A Google search showed one site that said all Tacomas can tow 3500 pounds, and 5500 with a V6 special package. I have a four door Prerunner, 2 wheel drive, 4 cylinder automatic. I'm planning to buy a small sailboat, probably under a 1000 pounds. I haven't put anything really heavy in the bed yet, so was wondering if anyone has any experience with towing with the Tacoma. Thanks a bunch.

I don't have experience towing with a Tacoma but have some experience towing with Isuzu and Nissan Frontier pickups. A 2004 Tacoma brochure I have lists the towing capacity for a 2004 truck like yours (I suspect a 2003 would be the same) as 3500 lb. with a maximum tongue load of 350 lb. The gross combined weight rating is 7,400 lb. I'm sure the Tacoma can handle the added load but as with any vehicle used for towing your stopping distances will increase and you will feel the added load going up hills. Otherwise your Tacoma should work well pulling a boat. Hope this information helps.

Thank you very much for the info. I'm sure the dingy is no where near the 3500 pound limit, but the only time I towed anything I had a full size 4 wheel drive Blazer. Once again, thanks.
