What is my Van telling me?

99 Windstar....
Sometimes when my van hasn't been driven for a couple of days or after I have started it briefly to pull it out of the garage, my van will give a very slight hesitation to start when I turn the key. When I get the hesitation the speedometer, gas gage, rpm gage and temp gage will swing to the extreme right for a brief moment than returns to their normal positions. It doesn't do that any other time, only at the times I mentioned above. Is my van trying to tell me something? Maybe, battery is getting old? Outside of these specific times my van starts quickly and runs normally. Any ideas?

Check the Battery for good connections.. My windstar neg batt term.
Gets corrosion big time in a short spell.. I have put a little grease on it. it slows it down but comes back. That may be the problem. The battery you can have checked out for free at most autoparts places.

Well, it was a battery getting ready to die. The connections were perfectly clean. When I had the battery tested while on vacation it was at a hole in the wall garage. They said it was fine and the alternator was good but something told me it was the battery. I mentioned it to my mechanic told him all the symptoms (headlights flashing on, gages swinging to the right, horn honking at start up and the theft light flashing while driving) he mentioned that if the battery was below 12v than all that will happen. He tested and sure 'nough very low. Put in a new battery and all is well again. It is so nice to have something minor wrong.
