Does anyone know how to reset the service indicator for a 2005 C230? Is it the same as for the older models? The owners manual does not provide this information.

it should be similar to the old way. scroll through the instrument cluster untill the mileage appears, then press the down arrow on the steering wheel twice so the service interval screen is displayed, then press and hold the button that resest the mileage. a screen should appear thats asks if u want to reset the service interval. release the button and press and hold it again untill the service resets.

Why are you resetting it? Some of the '05's came from factory with the wrong service interval settings. The dealerships know this and will correct the mileage for you.

This service reset does not work. THe reason i want to know this is because it costs 185.00 to have the dealer change the oil and do a reset. I think that is rediculous. Benz or not! I realy need to know how to reset it without going to the dealer.

So you bought a brand new Mercedes and now you're complaining about a $185 service that only needs to be done once a year?? I'm sorry, but you bought the wrong vehicle. Next time buy something cheaper.

Do I have the money? That is not the question. I would rather invest an extra 100.00 instead of blowing it at the MB dealer. AND it is not once a year with the amount of driving I do. I never had a problem with my Porsche in this matter. So instead of a smart ass remark how about a little help. If you dont have an answer, then DO NOT REPLY.

You can reset the service indicator on the dash, but this just resets the interval setting. The dealer will go into the vehicle and actually tell the car what kind of service it had (A or B...you may be able to do that from the dash but I'm not sure), and even what brand of oil and viscosity that was used, they record if the car was low in oil and how much overdue your service was(or underdue). This is all stored into your car's computer. I guess the reason for this is to keep the service history with the car no matter who owns it and provides proof of a solid maintainance history. A type "A" service is pretty much a glorified oil change but there is actually a lot that a dealer is supposed to check. That service pays 1.5 hours labor plus parts. If your dealer's rate is say 50.00-60.00 a hour, plus synthetic oil and a filter, the bill seems fair.

Thank you for your honest answer. I do have a friend that is a licensed MB mechanic, but I will follow your advice and stay with the MB dealer. THank you again!
