I'm new today to this site, and hope someone can assist me. ABS has kicked in, and the dang thing won't disengage. Had it into garage, and mechanic who did a test drive with me, told me I should just pull the fuse or "plug" on the system, as it is a known problem with this vehicle and once it starts, it just proves to be ongoing - $$$. Can I do this myself? I don't have a manual (bought it used) also want to know if I disengage the ABS system, will that affect my breaking ability? Thank you to anyone who can help!

Disenganging your ABS will certainly affect your breaking ability as the ABS system will not work. (I know this is obvious)

Having said that your normal braking system will be unnaffected.

To disengage you call simply pull the fuse for the ABS I don't have info for 96's but I do know the manuals are available online and someon posted a link a while back (search under manuals).

This is great! Now I feel ok about pulling the fuse. A girl's gotta cover her bases before she forges ahead! Thanks much for your help!
