My o/d light started blinking awhile back on long drives and i would loose my overdrive ?
Now I have no overdrive even when the light is blinking or not.
I bought a new speed senor but tried to put it in myself and gave up just to tight to fit in there!!!
I dont remember the last time I had my transmission fluild change.
Could that cause the problem I am haveing I dont want to sink to much money into it (thats what I have a Montana for)
Any help would be great
Thanks

Hmmm..I don't really hae a good answer for you. I do know that mine started blinking about 4,000 miles before the transmission gave out. :( Sorry to tell ya. i would go have the Tranny serviced ASAP...
LOl...I stuck a piece of tape over it for a long time...Not such a great solution
Good Luck!

Wheel speed sensor problem will not cause the O/D light to flash. That is an ABS issue.
The O/D light flashing is an indication of a problem with the transmission. You could have the codes read to find out what the cause is.
A common and inexpensive failure is the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) that is located on top of the transmission. This is also called the "Neutral Safety Switch". The linkage from the shifter on the steering column connects to the TRS....and this tells the electronics what gear you have selected. There are codes for telling you about problems with the TRS. It is not a hard DIY repair.....or should not be real expensive at a shop.
You MUST change the transmission fluid at LEAST every 30K miles... Use Mercon (not Mercon V ) for the '96.
I use Mobil 1 synthetic Mercon. You can buy it at Autozone and many other places.
I have some pictures of a few of my repairs on my '96 3.8L windstar at http://community.webshots.com/album/201931518cScpNK
