I saw in one post talk about the OBD II code reader. Is this the recommended one? Is it available at most auto supply stores?
Thanks,
Jeff

It depends on whether the vehicle (and year).
All 1996 and later will be OBDII but some 1994 and 1995 may be OBDI or OBDII

I use a basic Equus 3100 OBDII code reader. It can be had for around $100. Nothing fancy, and it can reset the check engine light. Works for many vehicles and the documentation is decent.

Tell us year, engine milege. That'll help.
My 95, 3.8 manufactured July 1995 in windsor is not totally compatible with ODB2. My neighbors manufactured Aug. 1995 is.
