I have a 92 2.8 V6 and the brakes squeal while I am driving down the road. When I tap on the brakes the noise goes away. It is not anything that is continuous but just more anoying.
I have checked out the pads and they and the rotors are okay. Could it be the calipers or the brake line? The guy that owned (just drove it) the pu before me did not take very good care of it. Any help would be appreciated. This has been the best pu I have every owned.

That noise is the wear tab. It makes noise to let you know youe pad are worn out. Even if you take your wheels off and look at the outter pad it will probably look ok. The outter pad is the one that moves on and off of your rotor, so the inner pad is always in contact with the rotor. So even if the outter looks ok, the inner is usually worn out. The same goes with the rotor, the inner side will wear first. So replace your pads and I bet your problem will go away.

I will check the brakes again. The funny thing is that I can be going down the road and hear nothing and then all of a sudden I hear the squealing and it will go for a little bit and quit. It seems to happen the most when it is a warmer day.
I will check things out again and see what I can do.

i have the same kinda problem too,
i changed my rotor and pad, but sometimes when i break, it still make noses, also it will make that nose when i turn and break(like i turn into my driveway).
Will my drum break make nose too when it worn out? Cus that is what i need to change next. Or something wrong with my new pad and rotor?

I have not really checked into the brakes and such yet. But when I checked them last time I serviced the pu they were all okay. I was talking with my brother and he said that the calipers will hang up sometimes and cause the brake pad to be rubbing on the rotor even after you get your foot of the brake.
It is the weirdest thing though. I will be going down the hwy and not be touching the brakes at all and it will make a screaching noise. Then I will tap the brakes lightly and the noise will quit. So it is not the wear tab indicator on the pads. I am going to spend sometime working on the little beast tommorrow. I will let you know what I discover.

Could be your wheel bearings. You might have to take them out and re-pack them with grease.

 I had the same squealing problem in my 97 Sonoma, 4.3L. -- It cost me nearly $260 and 3 hours to solve. -- The mechanic replaced the front brake pads, turned the rotors, packed the bearings, and relieved me of my :2cents: that I wasn't planning to spend. -- He also said that with wear, the front brakes tend to grab before the rear brakes and therefore take most of the stopping pressure, if adjustments are not made. -- I hope this helps - jack
