Coolant change?

I want to do a coolant flush and change on my sonoma, but I do NOT want to put back in Dex-Cool. I have started seeing so-called universal coolants on the market, and wanted to know if anyone has tried them. They say that they are compatable with all systems, but they are still the OAT coolants. Some are HOAT (hybrid organic acid technology) and some are not. I want to know if I can look forward to the same sludging and blockage as with dex-cool, or are they really better?

We thought about going green, but have heard that it can eat through the waterpump and other engine componants. True? :jump3:

Maybe some goo-gone in the system will clear up the sludge? :)

Just do a full acid flush and replace with green, you'll be fine.

As to green stuff eating through, untrue. I mean if it did then no one would use it.

why do you not want to put back in dex cool?

It doesn't matter what coolant you use,but as soon as you switch from dex-cool your long life protection is gone.

dex-cool is crap!!!!!!!!!! bottom line if you have a V6 or V8 this stuff eats intake gaskets.. and if you don't drive the truck everyday it starts to gun up the cooling system.. I already change my from dex-cool to the regular anti-freeze. but I had to replace my intake gasket as well. my truck is an 02 sonoma with 34,000.. the first place it starts leaking is the back of the intake hard to spot with out a mirror or look in the corners of the intake near the valve covers. If you see the rusty color or puddling in any of these areas the acid flush will cause a lot of problems. with more leaks. just my .02 cents.
