Dohc

So I found out recently that Toyota switched to DOHC in the 5VZ-FE around 98. I have a supercharged 97 SOHC and I was wondering if anyone knew when they switched to DOHC. I was also wondering if someone could tell me the differences in performance between the two, and do you think the supercharger would work better on the DOHC or SOHC??
If this is a big enough problem, how much can I get an engine for and how much would labor be? Would you recommend trading my 4runner in and getting a 5spd 98 (mine is automatic) or is getting a newer engine fairly simple? Thanks in advance.

I think someone is pulling someone's leg. The 3.4L 5VZ-FE has always been a DOHC since '96, with the 3rd generation 4Runner and other trucks. The most recent SOHC engine in the 4Runner is the 3VZ-E 3.0L available up to '95. Maybe that is what they were referring to.
Here's an engine history:

Wow, that makes me feel better. On the other hand it also makes me feel pretty stupid...
Thanks Brian
