Hello and Thanks for your time.
My son and his dad went to a well know autobody shop to have his 1988 truck painted. The shop is a 70 mile one way trip. My husband called the shop and they said my son's truck was ready for pick up. When they arrived my son was getting out to pay them and one of their guys met him and told him that his truck would not go out of neutral and that something had happened to his clutch. My husband and son both say that the truck was fine before. My son was irrate and declares that they damaged his truck he would not pay them and the truck will have to towed home. A nearby mechanic thinks that some kind of sleeve that holds transmission fluid( I guess) is broke. My husband says that the fluid was leaking out really bad. I told my son it was probably bad timing. I do not know anyway of knowing if the bodyshop was at fault and how could you prove it? Anyway I just hope the transmission is not messed up. Any input would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

How old is the clutch hydraulic system? It is not uncommon for the seals in the clutch slave cylinder to go causing a major fluid leak. Replacing the clutch slave cylinder shouldn't be too difficult a job.

Check the entire clutch system, from master cylinder to slave. My 86 master cylinder leaked very bad when I first purchased it.

it could be bad timing, if he knew somethign was leaking it might have just went out while there. that does suck to be in a situation where somethings is fine, or is working then goes out at a place like that. theres easy fingers to point.
