everyone says it's almost impossible to run true dual on a third gen, i know gm made a couple of third gens with true dual can't we just go the same route they did?

Yeah, i would like to know too. Drvngstorm showed me a pick of what true duals look like, let me find the old thread.

Well, i'm sure you already know, but here's what drvngstorm showed me http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=397304
looks awesome but way to low to the ground, they're ran under the subfram of the car, and where i live those pipes would be no good after one day around the block.

Yeah that's way to low to the ground i would drop that shit in about a day or two. is that the same way gm ran the true duals?

I don't know. I read somewhere that GM did have a few maro's with dual cat, i don't know if it's true duals back, put if it was, maybe we would be able to do the same thing?

There's a guy on another site (more specific to the third gen f-body) that had some pretty detailed photos of his set up he made. Only problem was the his area dosen't require emissions testing, so cats weren't an issue. The rest of the system didn't actually hang much lower than the normal single split system.

Can you post those photos? I would like to see how he did it.

Isn't there copy infingments or something?
I'll try and hunt the thread down and get his permission first.

Yeah, true duals would give you like an increase of horsepower albiet a little and it looks cooler, I wish 3rd gen Camaros didnt have only a one way to an exhaust

Over at thirdgen.org theres alot of people that are running duals with longtubes. Its possible but costs a bit of money, and takes alot of screwing around to get everything to fit nicely.

I got LT headers on my 89 firebird and I'm just going to run side pipes from each header...It doesnt look like the pipes are gonna be that low to the ground.

I believe the 90's Z28 Camaro's had two Cats.....but I don't know what GM did about the muffler. If you search on sites you can find and buy this setup. I've seen it, but forget where....sorry...

No it won't. A 3" single exhaust flows more than dual 2.25" and has other advantages..a balanced (heat, harmonics & flow) exhaust.
The only reason to NEED true duals is if you have a monster of an engine and are making obscene amounts of power.

...Uh..yeah, it WILL, I read it up at musclecarclub.com and it gave you an extra 5-10 or so hp. :)

Maybe over a stock, 2.5-2.75" OEM exhaust with all of the "wrinkled" bends. But not over a mandrel bent after market 3" with matching Y pipe

Morley is correct here. The rule of thumb is that you dont need duals until around 500hp, and even then the duals should only be around 2.5in. to run true duals at 3in of pipe, youll need to be making around 600-700hp to justify that exhaust system.

As far as dual cats go on thirdgens, the exhaust went into 1 pipe right after it passed through the cats. They are worth something like 10 extra hp, I forget exactly, but they came on later thirdgens, with the G92 package.

okay... IROC, I knew that about duals, but the only thing that I have yet to figure out is why the hell most street headers have 3in collectors on them, if they'll be running into 2.5 pipes.

true duals is easy run them both in stock single locatoin (max is 2 and 1\4 and yes single 3 out flows) and to eaqual the length out run the one that was off the drivers side exit out pass. and the one from the pass side cross over and exit out drivers side
use an x pipe and youll notice a gain over 3 only because there will actually be a vaccumm created believe it or not
but running a 3" will be your best bet mandrel bent and no cats and straight through muffler shouldf net a good 15 hp advantage
and more hp if more mods are done

on lower compression engines a y-pipe does give better flow...when the exhaust gases come together from either side of the engine in the y-pipe it has a sort of venturi effect causing the exhaust gas to leave the system faster...True dual will give you a increase in horsepower if you use cats and mufflers that don't restrict a lot of air flow and produce low backpressure

also did research and with proper bends(very close to each other ,actually aggaijnst each other) you can put 2 1\2" duals on and out flow 3"
also a x pipe creates more of the scavaging affect as i stated before it actully will result in a vaccumm like efect(actually a small amount of vaccumm) resulting in a significant gain in hp
good luck and if you try 2 1\2 i hope you know an excusite pipe bender because there is no room for tollerance and the bends must overlay to allow proper clearense in all directions
good luck on your exhasut wether you go single or duals hope it sounds bad as hell
