Well,
There is a first time for everything, and that's why I'm starting my (or should I say our...) first progress thread.
Here in Belgium there's a shop (Blokker) where you can buy the Revell "VW New Beetle" (normal and tuning version) kit for €8.50, which is pretty cheap.
So Oli and I bought a couple of those kits and started fantasising about it's possibillities.
Oli is going to build a Dakar Baja Bug version and some sort of DTM version. I am going to build a WRC Beetle and a Group N in Herbie colours.
The livery, except for the Herbie will be very yellowish with Chiquita, VW, Shell and Telefonica as our sponsors.
Oli will post the first pics as soon as possible.
Greetz,
Stijn

Hey Oli and Stijn, that's gonna be a fine couple of beetles.
I live in the Netherlands and we have also a shop called Blokker but I never saw there modelkits.
Good luck with the beetles and looking forward to see some progress pics.

For the moment they are selling them. I think they have bought a large amount of the Revell stock, and they can offer those kits for a very cheap price. You should check it out!

As for the beetle up question, the car Oli is going to make will look like a Beetle Cup, but with some personal touches. For the moment however, he's working on the Dakar Baja Beetle.

AS :useless: , i give you them.
I think Stijns rally beetle is already the most progressed, my baja on the otherhand , awaits a porsche engine and a rebuild of the chassis, and a widening of rear arches and wheelopenings, we ll just see about that.
questions and comments, criticism, always welcome.

The grey primered one is the Baja Dakar Beetle. Oli has made an opening to place an engine in it, and he's busy modifying the front of the car.
The one with the spoiler and the roof scoop is the WRC Beetle. License plate holders are puttied and sanded away. For the moment, I'm building a radiator to place in the front and I've just found out that the rollcage of my f***** up Heller Ford Focus WRC fits almost perfectly into the Beetle's interior, so i'm going to use it, together with a couple of Recaro seats. I was also working on a better spoiler, an oli and i ere thinking about a Focus Wrc-ish wing, but the Beetle's curved roof is a little bit "unforgiving" for roof spoilers, so we modified the stock spoiler a little bit...
The third one is Oli's second beetle. It's going to be converted in some sort of DTM beetle. As for the group N Herbie, I have to visit Blokker once more :icon16:
The five spoked wheel is for the WRC Beetle, and Oli is going to use the tires of his 405 t16 for the Baja Bug.

Stijn

here's a little update on the baja beetle. I widened the rear fenders, added a respirator. Also the interior is going to get a make-over with racing panels, a rollcage and a rear big ass gas tank. It sports a porsche motor, and it's going to have dakar suspentions.
tell me what do you think.
