Radio was working but not now. No sound in FM, AM, WB nor tape mode. Radio appears to be able to tune in but no sound from speakers. CD Mode is not an issue, works fine. Suspect the mute function for the cellphone is somehow stuck on but can't confirm. No cellphone is installed but there was one previously. What can I do next before giving up and taking it in to either the dealer or aftermarket repair shop?

I have the same car and same radio issue. The radio went out gradually. FIrst the radio selectively went on and off, now it's completely off , except for the buzzing sound. There is a cellphone, but we disabled it over a year ago, and the radio has been out for almost 3 months. Could it be the antenna in the rear glass window? Stuck without tunes

There is an internal applifier inside the car. Mine was located in the trunk on the left hand side behind the carpet. It is attached with 3 or so bolts. Remove the bolts and slide the amplifier out. Check the fuse on the amplifier. Mine was so old it broke into pieces when I pulled it out. I replaced the fuse and mounted the amplifier. Cranked the stereo and heard the wonderful sounds of music. Hope this helps :)

I replaced the factory radio (with a third party unit) in my 1990 735 that was exhibiting an intermittment problem similar to what you describe, only to have it do the same thing a couple of days later. I ultimately traced the problem to a separate amplifier unit which was what was actually failing:banghead: . Good luck!
