66 chevelle brakes versus 66 buick skylark brakes (how close?)

How closely does the 66 skylark resemble the chevelle of the same year. This question is directed at changing the drum brakes to disk brakes on my skylark without buying a kit (too much money). If these two cars do resemble each other closely I would like some advice on how to start this project or what brakes to look for that will fit. I expect to go the junkyards this summer to make some measurements and find something that will work. I am able to do minor machining on my own.

Most gm disc brakes set-ups are interchangable from 68-74 and will work great on your 66 i.e buick; pontiac; chevy etc. mid size cars skylark, cutlass, lemans, apollo, and nova. When you find a donor car you will separate at the ball joints. Take the spindles, calipers, lines and porportioning valve. I have a complete list of donor cars and have also done this to a 62 nova. If you need help, just ask!

thanks for the advice, I'll start looking in junkyards for some cars of those years. What did you use for your nova?

62-63 Nova uses 64-67 spindles and I used 74 Nova disc parts. Also found a small 7" booster and master cylinder on the web. It turned out to be a nice set-up. Also the car is air bagged. Rear has a 10 bolt Camaro unit. :smokin:

Always get all the parts, separate at the ball joints. You will need the spindles, back plates, calipers, hoses, lines, master cylinder, and porporioning valve. Hope this helps! It is a fairly easy conversion and can save you a lot of money. :cool:
