Towing Long Distance?

I have a 2001 Rodeo 2WD V6. I have to transport my old vehicle approximately 750 miles and am considering towing it with the Isuzu. My only concern is that this is a really long way to have a car in tow at that weight. The car in tow is a 96 Honda Accord (2855 lbs). Any ideas or recommendations?

Assuming it's an automatic transmission, I'd swap out the ATF before hand, and then after the trip. Other than that, make sure your cooling system is 100% and go easy on it, & check your engine oil level at EVERY fuel stop. Keep in mind that *stopping* (braking) is the most important aspect of towing!

Shouldn't have any problems.

Make sure to use your "power mode" when taking off from stops as well as if you start any climbing.

Rule of thumb, as Rodeo02 stated, take it easy, don't push it, and baby that transmission.

I tow 3-3,500# with my 97 V6 Auto a lot, never have had any problems.

Just remember any slightest of incline, kick that "power mode" on BEFORE you start climbing. It may not kick on "right" then, but it will, and let it be the judge.

I usually put mine in D with Power mode and leave it there when climbing the famous I-70 Rocky Mountain corridor. Flat ground starting out I use Power mode, then shut it off.

Forgot to ask, is that honda going to be on a half dolly, or a full trailer?

Full trailer may put you over what you'd want to tow, as the weight of the trailer may be another 1K or so.

Half dolly sounds like a better option. Make sure your brakes are in good order as well. My opinion is to NOT down shift that auto tranny for braking assistance. But 3rd gear does assist in that regard, just make certain you're below 50mph, 45mph preferably.

You may want to add a trans cooler also if you don't already have one.

Thanks for the replies, I did have the tow dolly in mind, the trailer would put me over or uncomfortably close to the tow limit, like you said.

Im about to do the same thing with a 6X12 Uhaul trailer, be towing from IN to Texas. Have a 99 amigo V6 auto 4wd. Are you guys serious about having to keep the speed down to 45 mph? Im not saying you are wrong Im just thinking that is going to seriously lengthen the time I am going to be on the road. This will be the first time I will have had to tow anything major on the back of the thing and Im looking at towing 4000lbs.
