Sorry to have to post bad news, but I received an email saying that Mr. Augie Hiscano passed away this morning of a heart attack. This makes me very sad because I had the honor to meet him in April of 2000, and he was a great human being. I last saw him at the 2004 Birmingham Classic, and he called me by my name and in spanish, man was I surprised. I never tought that would be the last time I would see him alive.
Rest in peace, "Uncle Augie".

Wow. Very surprising. I saw him in November and he seemed to be in good health. That really sucks. Our prayers and condolences are with his family. Very unfortunate.

Augie will be sorely missed. He's been a staple at so many of the best shows, and his machining and modeling talents were legendary. He treated everyone like his best friend, and was willing to help anyone with any aspect of modeling. He set up at our show every year, as he did at many shows. You could see him in action, and watch the master at work. He truly loved the hobby.

RIP Augie. We'll miss you.

Met him this past january. A magnificent artist. While talking with him, he let me hold this engine in the palm of my hand.

Absolutely incredible to witness his work in person.
He was a terrific inspiration, and I learned from him in just the brief time we spoke. He had much to teach.

Yes, rest in peace, Augie.

Augie Hiscano, there was no finer builder of street rods and his metalwork had to be seen to believe. His creations ruled the GSL.

He will be sorely missed.

He's truly one of the nicest people I have ever met.
Even if he wasn't the unbelievable model maker and machinist he was, he was the kind of person you were proud to just be able to say "I spoke with him once".
And that was all it took for him to make you feel like you were friends.
But there's more, he'd recognize you later and treat you like a friend.
He shared his vast knowledge with everyone and could make the most daunting projects seem possible the way he explained it.
I never saw him without a smile. I was so looking forward to seeing him next week.
He was an inspiration to me, and I'm sure to many hundreds of other builders too.
This is a very sad happening on many levels, but I think Augie would want us to keep building to the best of our abilities.
"Go build something!"

For those of you unfamiliar with Augie, I punched his name into Yahoo's search to see if I could locate a few pics. Even better, the man has his own page in the Internet Craftsmanship Museum.
