I know this was discussed recently, but im having a problem here. (95 z28) I looked under my hood and the label says OBD1. I have an OBD"2" plug under my dash. I bought a $150 obd2 scan tool and it wouldnt "link up" to my computer. I exchanged it for a $35 0bd1 tool, and it doesnt even fit my plug, since I have an obd2 plug. WTF???? I'm lost. how the hell am I supposed to read my trouble codes if I have an OBD1 cpu with an OBD2 plug??? Which scanner do I use???

u know what i just had the same problem, i actually went to an autozone in town and asked to use one of there code readers.. come to find out they r for 96+ camaros and then they said use this lil key and turn ur key to the on position and stick the the key in the top right 2 prongs, and that didn't say anything or help me at all.. so what i came to figure out is that i have to take it to a shop to find the problem or just start replacing things that i think might have caused a problem... i hope im talking about the samething ur talking about? engine codes? and what kind of problems r u having?

thats sucks major ass! i had to get a 97 pc for my car just so i could tune it without having to sent the computer to a person to do it. i hate messing with those things. maybe in the future u should look into upgradeing your pc all together.

Well your car is OBD 1 with OBD 2 datalink so you have 3 chooses. 1 you can buy a digital read out OBD 1 scanner and rig it as such http://shbox.com/1/xraycable.jpg . 2. you can buy a datalogger cable off ebay for like 40 bucks shipped and it comes with free scanning software that will give you sensor feed and other stuff too. 3. you can pay a dealer or garage with a scanner to read them for you. I would do 2 myself and I did

I just went ahead and scheduled an appointment for tomorrow at the Chevy dealership. $78 to scan and pinpoint the prob.
Here's what the car is doing, maybe you guys may have some ideas. Then we'll test your knowledge tomorrow when i find out exactly what it is :thinkerg: lol.
REALLY bad mpg, occasionally sputters when leaving red lights under fairly light acceleration, then suddenly snaps to life. If I leave the engine in drive (idleing about 5-700 rpm)while at a redlight, the CHECK ENGINE light stays off. If I put it in Neutral (idleing about 1200 rpm), it comes on. Either way, it comes on about 30 sec after I get going at a constant speed. So what do you guys think???

Hey, I may buy that data logger anyway. What all does it do?

if your going to buy the cable i would cancel the appointment... the cable hooks up to a computer (laptop) and the other end hooks up to your obd port (will work on any obd port even 94-95) then you run a program that comes with the cable and you are able to see your cars info such as codes tripped, dashboard data, sensor data... etc.. you are also able to clear your codes...

any thoughts on the symptoms? The guy at the dealership suggested EGR and possibly dirty injectors. I asked him about the O2's, since I just installed headers, and he said they wouldn't effct my mpg that dramatically, so probably not that. :dunno:

will that data logger work on a 94 3.4L with an OBD 1 port? Or just with the OBD 2?

well, nevermind the appointment. I had to cancel. This morning on the way to work, my "check guages" light caught my eye. I looked over and my temp is nearly fuckin pegged. I parked it, and water is pouring out. I had it towed home after work, tried to find the leak and it looks like its coming from the radiator itself. So, the diagnostic scan is off until I get this BS fixed.....always something....:disappoin
