Yeah mine does the same thing...my mechanic said it was caused by a vacuum leak in the crankcase.. he spent 4 hours on it and he ended up fixing it my pulling out the hose on the backside of the rubber elbow before the intake manifold and then plugged the elbow.
It took care of the problem but now i got an ugly hose just stickin out.

dude you may want to leave the hose on yours. that mechanic ripped off mrwrightPGT if he paid for the service. The PGT has a positive pressure sensor, so that if the oil pressure gets to low it will shut down the engine to prevent damage. that is why your dipstick also has a rubber seal to keep the pressure up.

Yeah he charged me $100 bucks for his time... and yesterday i put it back together cuz i was having idle problems so it was all for nothing...Im doing my own work from now on...

I dont know about the Oil pressure sensor. Because I had the connector from the Oilfilter to the block break and spew oil all over the road. It didnt shut down the engine. And the oil pressure dropped instantly. But If I didnt shut it off, it would have kept running. Luckily I shut it down before any damage was ever done.

I know mine runs fine with the oil cap off. I know it is a pressurized system but their are no sensors that shut down the engine when the oil pressure drops

Yea I know theres no sensor. I was replying to mikentc90 post. Claiming there was a sensor. But really it wouldnt be a bad idea if they put one in.

If GarberGT96 is correct, I appoligize for the error on the sensor information. I had been informed by a Probe Enthusiast that was also the president of a northern va probe owners club, so i figured he might know what he was talking about. If there is not a sensor, I wonder why there are so many PGTs that stall when the oil cap is removed.
(The following questions are to try and determine what has PGTs stalling when the oil cap is removed) My oil pressure usually reads on the low end, and it stalls when the oil cap is removed. If your PGT stalls when the oil cap is removed let me know if your pressure reading is Typically low. If your oil pressure is mid normal or hi and your PGT doesn't stall please reply to this post. Thanks, and lets hope we can find a reason and a fix for this Dilemma.

Im not trying to be malicious or anything, I was just implying from my experience there was no sensor. And most of the oil I had in the engine poured out on the road...

No Probe-lem, I would rather have correct info to pass on to other Probe owners, than give bogus info. I would really like to know why so many stall when the oil cap is removed. No hard feelings here.

I am not sure why this wiould happen. I have 2 1993 GT's here and tried it with both of them. Other than throwing oil all over they both still ran and drove a very short distance fine. I do not want any hard feelings here either. I am no mechanic when it comes to ford I just know from doing a tear down and two swaps and speaking to a local ford dealer about a few problems along with this question they claimed there was no reason why the cars would not run with the caps off.
