STUPID mechanics...

OK, So I just get back from the mechanics. I've had oil spewing out of my blowoff valve. Bad. So I walk in, he asks me what the problem is, Here's our initial conversation:

ME: "I've got oil spewing out of my blowoff valve in a fine mist when it goes off. I dunno-"
*He stops me*
Mechanic: "First of all... You don't HAVE a blowoff valve. That's first off."
*I almost crack a smile,*
Me: "Yes... I do."
Mechanic: "No you dont. Where's the oil coming from."
Me: "The blowoff valve!"
*Mechanic looks slightly exasperated, like he's trying to teach a sheep how to spell.*
Mechanic: "Well why don't you just SHOW me."
*We walk outside, open the hood/trunk whatever thing, and I show him.*
Me: "See, it's spewing out of there. And I just replaced the turbo, brand new turbo, and the oil feed/return lines, I've got no idea where this oil is coming from, but it's spewing out the blowoff valve."
(I didn't rub it in his face or anything, even though I was more than a little pissed about this guy being a cocky asshole.)
Mechanic: "So where's the oil actually coming from?"
Me: "The blowoff valve. Right here. See? You can even see the oil fanning out from it and the oil all over the rim. "
Mechanic: "Well that's the blowoff valve for the INDUCTION. Not the engine"
Me, now smiling: "I didn't say it was for the block. What other kind of blowoff valve IS there?"
Mechanic: "Well I'd probably say its a bad turbo. Is that turbo brand new?"
Me: "Yes. Straight from the factory. It's done this with 2 turbos. It's not the turbo."
Mechanic: "Hmm, well I dont really know..."
Me: "Yeah, me either. That's why it's here. So you guys can take a look at it."
Mechanic: "Hmm... "
Me: "Fuck it. Nevermind, I'll go somewhere competent."

Stupidass sometimes, I swear. Just admit you don't know and move to fix it or pass it up, Dont' be a cockyass deuschbag.

Try owning a rotary... You can't even take it to a mechanic. :)

that's the common mentality of most technicians. My service manager, he feels as though he's a car god and you can't tell him anything. God forbid some of them if they have a college degree, you can't talk to them (though I have one, I try not to be a dickhead like them).

You handled that exactly the way I would have .... although I would have rubbed it in about the blow-off valve.
"If I don't have a blow off valve, then tell what that thing right there is ... a hamster wheel on steriods !!!"

I have gone through 3-4 mechanics since buying my first car cause everyone would nickel and dime me, take forever to fix the vehicle (one guys was weeks !!!).
Now the mechanic I go to is first rate, charges a lot, but usually gets the job done quick, and only uses new parts. We have an understanding that I do not want cheap or used parts on my vehicles and I will usually pay him extra for good service. One time they replaced a burnt transmission in 2 hrs. (2 guys , 2 hrs.). They got a bonus for that one!!

Moron. If you're working in auto repair and you don't know, find someone that does. His customer skills = 0

Had a 95 RX7 before the MR2. TRUST ME... I don't go to a mechanics unless I'm absolutely BAFFLED now. I just can't go. Nobody ever wants to work on my damned cars. DISCRIMINATION.

I was pretty pissed when he was like "you don't have a blowoff valve." he had NO IDEA what car I had either. couldn't see it from the office, I'd parked around a corner. He didn't know ONE THING about the car. couldda been a moped, couldda been a fucking ferrari and he still tried telling me i didn't have a blowoff valve. I told my mechanic roommate and he's been making plans to go fuck with the guy ever since. What BULLshit... And took it to MY mechanic today, the decent one, and he was hesitant to work on it too. he directed me to his friend who does a lot of work on imports, and even then the guy didnt know muhc about it. I'm like "dood here's what you gotta know: turbo, pistons, exhaust, intake... get on it"... I have a feeling ima get stuck with a BIG bill no matter what...

The only people who can fix these things are the ones like me and you. My friends and I work on each others cars because we like it and know what we are doing. It's better to take it to someone who fixes for a hobby than for a living.
