First: How do you replace the spring in the automatic shifter lever?

Second: What activates the telescoping steering column? Where is the switch or lever? Mine will telescope but only when the star retaining bolt is loosened.

Thanks for the help. Steve

My '76 was a manual, so I can't help with #1.

#2. Theres a collar on the steeering column right behind the steering wheel that turns about 1/10th of a turn counter-clockwise. This loosens the telescopic part, pull it out or push it in to the desired location and turn the collar/ring CW to tighten.

If you are referring to the spring in the top of the shifter, that can be removed after spinning the silver button, counter clockwise, in the top of the shifter knob. I have a '79, and if they are the same, then that is how you do it.

The spring in my shifter is in the bottom of the shaft. A rod runs from the silver button down through the shaft and pushes on a spring. The spring keeps the shifter in the right position i.e. Drive, Reverse etc. via a tab sticking out the side of the shaft. But the spring in the bottom is wore out and wont keep the shifter in position. That is the spring I need to replace. Thanks again for the help.
