Dash Ticking Noise

Noticed a ticking noise on and off coming from somewhere in the dash. At first it was just at a stop then I would hear the tick driving too. Any ideas?

I have no idea what the problem is but I think I have the same thing you do. Does it sound like it's coming from behind the instrument cluster or maybe a little to the left? It's faint but I notice it. Wish I knew what it was.

yes, it sounded like it was coming from the instrument panel, or maybe the centre...it was very faint...almost like a muffeled turn signal sound. the noise was gone today...strange.

It does seem to disappear at times and come back. Mine seems to be a little faster tick than a turn signal. It's probably like if you had a piece of paper stuck in a box fan on low. Really faint though.

i noticed the noise came on after i sprayed off my truck...not that does have anything to do with it.

I think I noticed mine after a ran my first batch of SeaFoam through the brake booster vacuum. Since the booster is over in that area it might have something to do with it?

I have what seems to be the same sound, only I pinpointed my sound to be coming from a hole in my headliner right above my head. I justnoticed it the other day and started looking for it. And, it comes and goes. The hole is about the size of a half dollar and is a quick light tapping noise. When you put your ear against it, it sounds like a blower motor of some kind.....hmmmm. Any ideas anyone?

I took mine in under warranty (30K miles) for that problem and the tech spent 6 hours systematically taking my dash apart and test driving it. I believe that it was a baffle or something deep in the dash, which he added some kind of padding to and got rid of it. I now have 65K on it and it is coming back......

It's not your keys slapping the shifter or the dash, is it? Mine were doing that and it tooke me a while to figure out where the noise was coming from.

i have the same noise, it only happens when i step on the brakes to put the truck in gear. doesn't happen all the time. i guess its just another problem with gm's shitty braking system

When i release my parking brake the light sensor turns on my running light, thats when I hear a clicking noise. When Im driving if I go under a bridge that light sensor will click probally turning on my headlights. I even hear it when a dark cloud passes over. Just my 2 cents maybe this is what you are hearing.

if you take your dash off youll notice some thin sticks with ruber ends on them. (put truck in 1st gear and just pull the front dash piece off) yea it doesnt seem right but just yank it off. the little pieces are attacted to the dash piece that just rippes off and they press against the instrument window. I noticed that two of the little stick things had broken and fallen into the dash assembly...i believe that these pieces are what are making the little ticks behind my dash because it olny happens during certain driving conditions(vibrations).

i work for a gm dealership i bet the problem is feedback from your injectors the fuel lines run under the dash out side in the engine compartment they groundout on the body try moveing the fuel lines a little and putting insulation where they contact the body

Hey all! We did track down our '94 Silverado wiring problem - bad fuse connection - but I have another issue about "ticking noises" in the dash!! When you start the truck, it makes a clicking noise - over on the passenger side of the dash maybe in a vent...sounds like a piece of cardboard hitting a fan...after the ignition has been on for a minute or two, it stops. It happens again when we shut it off. Any ideas??
Thanks!!

ok I just bought a 03 z71 and have the same noise. Here is what i have found out so far. It seems tied in with ac. Shut off ac while in use if noise stops great. I have been running ac on floor+front vents. I get no noise when i do this. It is my laymans opinion it is some actuator for vent shift. Anyone have any other ideas and fix im all ears

I have a 2004 gmc sierra with a ticking noise, there was a tsb out for the electric motors inside the instrument cluster, it sounded like a mouse was behind the dash or some ticking noise. They ordered a new instrument cluster and it fixed the problem. Just make sure that they program the correct mileage if they put a new cluster in. Hope this helps..

I had the same noise in the '04 model I had. I finally got it to do it for the dealer and they said that it sounded like a relay going bad. They fixed what ever it was and never heard it again.

HAHAHA! man I remember one day when I was walking around downtown Atlanta, there were som pidgeons out in the middle of the road eating something. All of a sudden, this giant Oldsmobile (ever seen Evil Dead?) started heading towards them. Well, all but one of the pidgeons decicded it was a good time to leave. The one that remained would have been totally ok, if it had not decided to take off while it was under the car. Then, *poof!* feathers everywhere. Damn pidgeons... feathered rats.

I have a 99 Chevy Z71 and have the same ticking noise on the passenger side. I to agree that it has something to do with the ac. There may be some type of cavitation in the ac hoses running through the firewall on the passenger side. When I had my truck running, i had someone rev the engine up and i went over and felt of those hoses and it seemed to have the same rhythm of ticking that you could feel in the hoses. Anyone else tried this?
