I am searching for an engine swap fo my 95 DX.
Will the B16A1 work well using the cable-to-hydr conversion kit. What are the differences with the B16A2. From waht I saw it seems to be the same engine, except for the cable transmission. (and $1000 cheaper!!!)
Any advice will be very welcome.

B16a1 is OBDI and b16a2 is OBDII(meaning that has more sensors)

for one b16a2 is stronger and better if you are willing to do the odbII then great but you also have to think that since your car is a 95 dx i you have to worry about a hydro tranny .... so that 2 thing you have to worry about and more power then the b16a1 lol so that 3 things differnet from the b16a1 and b16a2 that i know or could think of ....

But, the power is the same inboth engines. Is that right?
Regarding, the hydro tranny, the conversion kit of Hasport cost $250. So, I am stil $750 below the price of the B16A2.
Rgarding the OBD, I am not clear what the difference is. Can you guys help me with that? What kind of ODB does the DX have?

well,
first off dont say things like b16a1 and b16a2. what i assume you mean is 1st gen. b16a and 2nd gen. b16a(jdm engines, USDM motors have the #s at the end like b16a2,b16a3). the first gen. comes with a cable tranny and has a compression of 10.2:1 producing 160hp. the 2nd gen. b16a comes with a hydraulic tranny and produces 170hp with a comp. ratio of 10.4:1. the usdm motors are the b16a3(del sol vtec) the b16a2(99-00 si). there are a few jdm b16a motors that are labeled b16a1 but for the most part just check the generation. for your case if you want to look into getting the first gen. which is about 1k less youll pay for it in that you will pay about 450 for the hasport mount kit and hydro to cable conversion and also you will have to convert quite a bit of wiring to get it to work, or buy the hasport wiring kit for this swap, but i have yet to find it. if you want more info on this swap i suggest you find the really recent sport compact car mag that does the first gen swap into a 5th gen civic. they show you what you need to purchase to do it(mostly). if you do it, post on how well it works out. oh, the 2nd gen b16a requires no mount kit and just a teeny bit of wiring.

92-95 civics are OBDI
96-00 civics are OBDII
The diference between them is that the OBDII has more sensors to monitor your car. IE. 92-95 have just one O2 sensors and 96-00 has 2 O2 sensors. Thats why if you put a header from a 92 95 to a 96-00 car your check engine light goes on cause youre leavin one sensor un hooked.
Basically with the OBDII system you get a beter idea of whats hapening with your engine cause it has more sensors to monitor your motor.

Yes, I read the article. Actually, this article was the one that put the B16A1 back on my radar screen. If I am not wrong, they are suggesting that this swap is pretty simple. They only mention the need of the cable to hydro tranny conversion.
Why are mentioning also the mounts kit. Wouldn't it bolt on with the DX mounts?
