AOD to 5 speed conversion

Has anyone ever done this? I have a 92 3.3l grand caravan that needs its THIRD TRANSMISSION! I love the van and the engine (it's got 130k miles and runs like a champ) but the transmissions keep failing and now I am so frustrated with it I am willing to convert it to a manual... IF it can be done! I know that some of the smaller 4cyl vans came with manuals...does any one know if these transmissions will mount up to the 3.3? thanks in advance for any advice!

Sorry, no manual transmission is available for this motor, plus IF you were able to find one, it'd cost too much to convert to a five-speed. I rebuild trannys and I don't normally recommend this, but if you don't feel like going through another rebuild, get a junkyard unit. And just as a tip, whoever is rebuilding your transmissions is doing is piss-poor job of it. I rebuild Chrysler transmissions everyday and of the thousands that I've done, only a handful have comeback for me to do over again. Personally, you have a right to know as a customer, the working conditions of the shop performing the rebuild; if they're not clean and have dirt everywhere, the slightest bit of sand can destroy a tranny in a short period of time. Inspect all shops with a fine tooth comb, don't just go to one that is "cheaper". In the long run, you'll get what you pay for.

I am dissapointed to hear that there is not a manual transaxle that will mount to this engine. Also, I wouldn't pay anyone to have done this; I would have done this myself. I do lots of automotive work myself. but I have never rebuilt a tranny of any type but my deal is this: I have a vehicle that is worth less than what I would pay for a shop to install the transmission! (I would pay a shop to do it to benefit from thier warranty) and I have a good fealing about these 3.3s I just KNOW this thing is going to give me 300k miles! if I can just keep a transmission in her!

the 3.3 also came in the plymouth duster. That was a fast little car. My friend had the same van as you, he went through 3 transmissions. dont feel bad. the engine will out last alot of transmissions.
