Headlight switch

This should be a fairly simple answer. I took my dash off so I could install an mp3 player in my '92 Ford Thunderbird, and when I took my headlight switch off, I just pulled it straight out. Now when I try to put it back on, it doesn't seem to hold. Is there a trick to it, or do I have to buy another one, or did I break something? I know I'm gonna feel stupid when I get the answer. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Thanks!
Thanks!

thats weird, I tried once to get the gauges out of an 89-92 car, with the headlight pull style switch. To get the trim off, I had to take that knob off. For the love of god, I couldnt get it off, after failed attempts of pulling/yanking/yanking with pliers/hammer ..i finally said screw it. If its the plastic knob that isnt staying on, just try and superglue it back on.

there's a little black clip that goes inside the headlight knob , on mine it slipped down the shaft, be shure to get it all the way back in the knob.
