no heat

I can't get any heat from the front or the back. After the engine warms up, I turn the blower on, and it initially blows warm air...for about 1-2 seconds. Then the air quickly changes to cool (but not AC). I turn it off, wait 5 minutes and try again, and it always does the same thing. The blower seems to work fine. This just started today. For a year or so, though, we have had the common problem of heat in the back when the AC is turned on in the front. Don't know if these two are related or not. Any advice?

I saw very similar problem/fixes posted under thread titled "2001 Windstar Heater Not Working." Type in the above wording in the seach this forum scratch pad and click on Go. It will get you there. Good luck.

Sounds to me like it's plugged up and may need a good flushing.
I think I remember reading that the heater core should be flushed by itself though as the passages are finer than the radiator and loose crud from the rad and block will plug it even more.

Anyone else have opinions?

BCMedic is correct...
FORD has a TSB that states just that.

Double check the coolant level....make sure that it is full in the RADIATOR.

I often squeeze the upper radiator hose after driving for a while.....to make sure that it has hot fluid in it.....and that it is somewhat firm. If I hear a hissing of fluid or air going through the radiator cap to the overflow bottle.....then I know that the cap is not holding pressure......usually just needs the inside wiped off...where the rubber seal in the cap meets the neck of the radiator.

If you keep getting air into the coolant system, you will need to solve that.
