hi,
i read in my manual that this means that there's an electrical problem in the transaxle. i haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, but it seems every once in a while it idles fast or noisier than usual. i'm pretty broke, but am thinking about getting it checked out. any thoughts or experiences? thank you so much for any help - i'm strapped for time at the moment.

I'm guessing its either u need a new sensor or you need your transmissions fluid changed or to be filled.

I got in my car to back up one day (1992 LX 3.0) and the transmission just let go while the car was moving back. I didn't hear a noise or feel anything, so I thought it had died. The tach was still registering so I looked @ the shifter thinking maybe I had knocked it out of gear somehow, but no... Then the "MAN SHIFT" light started blinking. I found a way to run the trans. diagnostics on it and all it came back with was a speed sensor. Any suggestions?

Scott - My Probe is a 1992 and the following is a copy/paste from the 1992 Ford Shop Manual...I hope this can be applicable to your 1991 probe as the 1990-1992 probes are very similar:
SYMPTOM CHART: 4EAT
o Manual Light Flashing
Possible Source(s):
§ 4EAT control module.
§ Sensors.
§ Circuit.
Action(s) to Take:
§ GO to «Switch Monitor Test SM1» .
* * * * * *
Unfortunately, the Switch Monitor Test requires a 4EAT tester-adapter. If you get a hold of one, I will type the remaing steps to you--the boxes are not copy/pasting as the text does.
Good Luck.
