i got a 95 contour lx and the other day i pulled out the old stereo in it to put in my better one. needless to say that the kid who did the last job well he did one hell of a hack job. i stumbled across one set of wires all cut the hell up and if i touched one wire my airbag light would go on touch another one and the car stalls out. any way i rehooked the battery up and now the damn car wont start there is full power but the car just wont turn over or anything and there is this damn beeping noise everytime i try to start it that wasnt there before. does anybody out there have any idea WTF is wrong.

do you remember what wires where used on the old stereo. if u do just use those. as for not starting maybe you blew a fuse, shorted out a wire?? i dont know.

my guess is blown fuse or something going to ground that shouldn't be. I would check your ignition fuses/etc. and if they are good, pull the radio back out and seperate all the wires and see if it starts.
It is maybe conceivable that if you have your Acc./hot crossed with a ground somewhere, it could keep the car from running...?
I've seen poorly wired radios do a lot of weird things... but this would be the first with keeping a car from running.

You should have one. typically under the dash above where your left foot would rest. But I've seen them on the dash side only accesible with the driver door open and on the passenger side too...

You've taken the radio back out and seperated everything out?
You mentioned other wires, these were seperate from the radio wires?
perhaps that was part of the bundle associated with the ignition switch. If it is a second bundle, make sure they are all properly connected and not broken. If there is any expose wires, make sure they are not broken. Have you tried jumping it out? any chance the battery got shorted or there is corrosion on the terminal?

we didnt bother to jump it we just tried to pop the clutch a few times with no success. now if i blew the ignition switch there would be no power at all when i turn the key right?

there is 2 clips one that goes into the radio with the power and ground and 2 speakers the other set that was cut up looks like its a set that was for ford premium sound with pre amped speakers.

:banghead: <--- are you there yet?
well, ignition switch... may just get accesory power if the crank portion of the switch is messed up. (i don't know techincal names of anything, but i'm refering to the actual switch the key slides into)
The fact that lights were lighting up and the car was stalling made me think you had the bundle that was comming from the instrument pannel and ignition... light on... touched a hot or ground to the srs light, when the car stalled i figured it was from putting a ground somehow to the hot on the "run" posistion of the switch and either burnt the switch or blew a fuse. Or, if you never touched anything to it, just toucked it and the car died, then perhaps that wire got broken somewhere along the line and is no longer "made".
I hope you figure something out. sorry I can't be more help.

ok ok calm down. go slow and try to rember what steps you took to get where yuo are to day. go back over each thing you did. and try to undo them one by one. and this may be what it is. on the left fender under the hood is a box with fuses or relays in it. i believ the front fuse is the one i am thinking of. try replacing it . what i di was take the one from behind it and placed it in the front slot.car started and then i got one from autozone to rplace the other one.
and if that doesnt do it you probably should look at all the cut wires and try to splice thm back together they are color coded. the wires under the dash where you were working on your radio. you probably have a disconnected wire from your key switch . a lot of times the one taht goes to ac also goes to your ign. it has to read all comp info. also i am not sure you may have accidently kicked the comp it should have a reset button on it . usually on the right side of car
and also the contour is famous for the shifting lever to get out of place and it wont start. as a matter of fact you probably arent it park and you will fell so foolish that you wont right back and say i accidently moved the lever and it wouldnt start. lol omg i cant believ it could be that simple.
