So how about a sticky for what you need to get started? IE car, roll cage, helmet, seat, rubber, and so on. Or am I a dumb ass? I don’t know what ever…

the only thing you really NEED to get started is a drivers liscence, an acceptably safe vehicle (secure battery, seat belts, doors that close, etc), and enough money to cover the entry fee.

There is more to solo racing than autocross and you need a lot more than a driver's license and a safe car to go beyond autocross.

Yes, but if you want to get *started* in solo, autocross is the way to go. Once you're into autocross far enough to be good enough for solo, you'll have the contacts necessary to know what you need for solo I (now called Time Attack or somesuch... whatever it is, it's now under Club Racing rather than Solo).

Yeah, it is "Time Trials" now, but it is still a solo event (literally speaking).
There are many Solo 1/Time Trial folks that did not start in autocross (or ever even do it).
I agree with you though, that solo 2 autocross is the preferred place to start.

There are people that just hopped straight into Solo I?!? That's a lot of money considering you may not even know whether you'll enjoy it or not...

There are a couple of people I hill climb (Solo 1) with that started on the hills. It is often a family thing (at least around here) and people just kind of get into it without seeing a Solo 2 course.
I had an intersting conversation with a lady last summer that hil lclimbs and she said she went and tried to do Solo 2 and hated it. She had never done it before although she was hill climbing for years.

That's cool. I live in central Texas, where there are no hills to climb.
