Hey guys,
I am checking out a 68 Camaro SS and am wondering if GM has a site (or anyone else) where I can confirm this is a real SS?

Thanks much for any help.

there is someone in here who was telling us last week that a site online is setup for you to run vin numbers and give you back info about the car. if he comes in here im sure he can help you, i wish i could remember who it was or what post we were in, ill look if i find it ill come back in here and post it. other than that you can always do a search and see what you get back. just put in vin search or something crazy im sure youll get at least a start

Not to be rude but www.google.com for vin number stuff. also Carfax will tell you right away make model etc damage or not its a few bucks but its worth it if its a legit 68 ss

I've found them before but can't recall the site name. Do a search for like "VIN code definition" and see if that turns it up.

Thanks guys,
I did a search & found that in 1st gen Camaro's you can tell things like where it was built, V8 or 6cy eng. but not what I was wanting to confirm. (SS)

hmm, try this site

http://www.vehicleidentificationnumber.com/chevrolet_camaro_1967-1975.html

if not, go to this site www.vehicleidentificationnumber.com, then go to vin decoder, this site is probably the best vin site, i dont think it can give you the info of previous owners, but on my maro, it gave me the month and year it was made, i found out that it was made in 88 in march (i have an 89) and that it was from Van Nuys. haha, good luck, post back if it works.

There is a book(s) floating around out there that go for the full breakdown of the VIN. One position is desiganted for trim option or RPO code signifier. Maybe check out Hemmings on-line?

67 is the only year you could tell by looking at the trim plate. All the options were stamped on it. Someone else said already but the vin is only going to tell you if it was a coupe/ convertible, v8 or L6, or assembly plant. You could try looking for the build sheet, but after this many years / owners it probably gone.

Worst case scenario. Call a chevy dealer and tell 'em you need help etc.
